Could this spell the end of Hegseth? Somebody will have to pay.

Pavel is a man of true integrity (as an American expat living in Czech Rep, I am still claiming him as my president!). But the US is not going to put any pressure on Russia, aside from a few Truth Social statements expressing minor displeasure. The EU must deal with reality, not baseless hope.

Disgusting, but no surprise. The EU in particular needs to come to terms with the fact that the US is all in with Russia. As an American it is painful to watch. As an expat living in Europe, it is also painful to see EU diplomats still desperately thinking that they can bring the US around.

Joining the chorus here - we get it. Now, for god's sake, move on.

Let's see what they say when the US applies a 500% tariff on goods from countries buying energy products from Russia. As much as I can't stand Lindsay Graham, I support this policy.

I'm afraid that for almost half of America the answer is yes.

Then let me help them out - Trump will do whatever benefits Russia at the least cost to himself. So no direct assistance, but everything just short of that, including dropping sanctions. This is not hard to see-he telegraphs it every day. So how European leaders are still "left asking" is beyond me.

Well, let's see. EU has been talking the talk for a while now, but has yet to walk the walk. Long overdue.

It seems that the Ivy League has turned out many of the architects and facilitators of the current authoritarian administration - so perhaps we ought not be so surprised.

If Signal is run by "lefties" then why on earth is the Trump administration using it.

Perhaps not, but based on approval ratings, almost 50% of Americans seem to be A-ok with it.

Since Democratic supporters tend to be wealthier and I assume more likely to travel abroad, wouldn't the portion of the population who have passports be more likely to skew Democratic? Isn't he shooting Republicans in the foot with this (if it is upheld)?

Not sure how much hacking Russia needs to do. They likely get the info directly - no subterfuge required.

Macron. As the saying goes - all hat and no cattle.

Welp, there it is. Trump seemed to light a fire under Europe/EU, but it's fizzled out. Just like in the US, maybe we get the leadership we deserve.

I thought this was the sort of thing Rubio's family fled Cuba to escape?

He is going to disavow the NATO treaty regardless. He's been saying as much for years, and this term he has been doing exactly the things he said he wants to do.

Sitting here in Europe, it was one of the best things that could have happened. Very clarifying and it has helped strengthen the European leadership and public backing of Ukraine, which was flagging as the war has worn on.

Very eye opening if this is how they are actually teaching the Golden Rule. Not quite what we learned in vacation Bible school.

The 33% he cares about are apparently still on board - the ones who gave him the majority in the election. Plus plenty of others seem to be buying what he's selling. It seems these figures should be much worse based on what's happening.

All well and good, but of little comfort to Canada when Trump decides to move in.

Unless they start selling to Russia.

How will this work if Hungary and/or Slovakia decide to oppose it. Is there a plan in place for that?

We can only hope James Carville was right - that Dems doing nothing is the right move and Trump will bury himself.

She is the one who led the pressure campaign for Al Frankel to resign. And now she can't condemn Cuomo?
comment in response to

I still don't understand how any of this happens without Hungary and Slovakia either on board or out of the picture. All the discussions and agreements don't mean a thing when one rogue country can throw sand in the gears.

As a native Texan who is appalled at what has happened to my home state, Jasmine Crockett is why I still hold out hope. This is, after all, the state that gave us Ann Richards and Barbara Jordan.

Why would they need to "keep up"? Trump will likely have them cooperating.

Perhaps Europe needed this clarifying moment. Trump was never going to support Ukraine. And dragging it out just gave Europe the chance to keep dithering.

He certainly just blew up NATO.

UK is delusional if they think Trump sees any "special relationship" with them.

There is no US support - for the love of god Europe has got to come to terms with that.

Maybe it was time. Trump was never going to step up, but Europe seemed to keep holding out hope. This marks Europe's come to Jesus moment - let's see if they can meet the moment. Otherwise, it's over.

Makes little difference at this point. 1/3 of the electorate voted for Trump, but another 1/3 stayed home. So 2/3 of the country either actively or passively are okay with Trump. Not sure how America recovers, but there are good people there working for democracy.

I don't believe there is one - not even Russia. America first - America alone.

Doing this from Czech Republic - already cancelled Amazon prime last month. And avoiding American products where I can - no Coke Zero is killing me, though.

Would be interesting to know what percentage are vaccinated by age group. I imagine it would be higher in older people who were children before this anti-vax nonsense started and lower in young people and children, which would be a very bad situation.

I hope European leaders are not as timid as they have appeared over these last 8 years. Some talk a good game, and some have actually delivered. But the major players, aside from Poland, have not proven their mettle. If they can't rid themselves of Orban, how do they hope to best Trump and Putin.
