Wait, is this true? (Or is this just another Corbyn joke?) As #COYG in Brooklyn since 1996, this would be huge...

My piece has a lot of general Blue Notes choices too. But if you start on Louis' solo career, this is a MONSTER record - and commonly regarded as a high-point! www.discogs.com/release/4530...

I guess I'm flabbergasted that (what I'll generalize as) Wenner-sims—"weird to be weird" "not as good as Lennon/McCartney" "not articulate enough on an intellectual level"—are read as cornerstones, and not outliers by clueless white men who got rich on the culture and tried ivory-tower-ing it. No trusted music-smartie I've had discussions with throughout my adulthood dismisses these 2 giants. They may admire others more, but Brian/Sly's place in the pantheon is a given. Yet folks are still beholden to half-blind institutions. driven by their own agendas, for a straw man argument. (2/3)

I wanna leap on this idea of "the weird return of bad takes": The amount of folks posting (and I'm paraphrasing) that neither Sly nor Brian have gotten the critical flowers they've deserved from institutions, but who've also decried the idiocy of those institutions, is mind-boggling to me. (1/3)

I'm also thinking how different the perspective given to this vs. the BNM given to the last Arthur Russell/Audika release, which is HELLA-inside baseball (cassette-taped lo-fi, live solo cello + effects). I guess P4k's world wants every drop of some archives, but only "what we like" of others.

...or that the author likes her piano work better than her organ and harmonium interpretations. Which may be fair (haven't heard this one) but feels SO reductive. A little saddened to see the byline attached, as I usually have higher expectation of said writer...

I'd venture to say that, at this point, nobody close enough to ask him questions like this still qualifies as a journalist. They've all had to jump thru enuff hoops that their idea of "practicing journalism" has been severely neutered. More like court stenographers and media sycophants...
