#LTHEchat A6 I would say, We are a learning institution - we want to model inquiry and the enthusiasm to learn and communicate - all will be supported in some form of research acitivity - it will not be by 5year plan! it will follow your interests, it will enrich you and us - and we will value that

A5 “you’re a research-led University, describe how your undergraduate teaching environment has been informed by and has contributed to, discipline based education.” #lthechat

A4 the rules for REF 2029 continue to reduce the perverse incentives to creatively exclude (relabel) researchers* essentially because their (sub) discipline has lower impact factor journals. #lthechat *best academic thing that ever happened to me, but that wasn’t the intent when it was done.

#LTHEchat A5 I have not looked deeply into this REF round - but am saddened at how quickly HEI abandoned research around HE pedagogy because it was so poorly understood by the assessors last time round. Of course it is cheaper to exclude the many from feeling research active - but it is not equal.

#LTHEchat A4 the last REF rounded included HE Pedagogy - however it seemed to be poorly understood by the evaluators and took some overall 'scores' down - so HEI immediately lost their nerve & tossed it out - thus actively disenfranchising many, and modelling lily livered compliance. Plus ca change

A3 the single biggest threat is divisive use of the word “scholarship” - don’t allow yourself to be othered, you’re a discipline based pedagogical researcher. #lthechat #reclaimscholarship
