And - ooops - here is that podcast: open.spotify.com/episode/6aWr... #LoveLD

Oh god yes - if we can't have that - kindness and good manners will suffice!

A6 an openness and acceptance of alternatives The desire to embrace more and not constrain others in the exploration of what they want to know. If I can't have that, kindness and good manners may have to suffice #LTHEchat

Thank you! You would never guess it was your first time - great questions handled with aplomb! :-D

Thank you for your company #LTHEchat - especially in what for me has been/is a difficult time!

A6 That different outputs are valued - its not just about REFable journal papers but what makes an impact on practice and the student experience. #LTHEchat The SoTL staircase goes some way to demonstrate this lta.shu.ac.uk/scholarship/...

A6 SoTL research is given the same respect and that this is inclusive welcoming contributions from multiple areas of the university #LTHEchat

A6 I would throw a hammer through the windows of bureaucracy, to paraphrase D&G and make them start all over again. #LTHEChat

A5 What contract types and roles are doing research and where are they publishing. How much are staff valued, rewarded, recognised by the organisation for their research contributions. 🤔 #LTHEChat

THANK YOU!! This week I joined nearly two days late - but I joined - and I enjoyed the asynchronous conversation! Thank you for the questions - thank the #LTHEchat community for their answers!

It's so lovely when you can fly below the radar - but new contracts - more teaching hours - more unnecessary admin - more strategies and targets - means attention is paid! Surveillance and control rule! #LTHEchat
comment in response to post
T&S colleagues get more teaching hours - more unnecessary admin tasks to undertake - and yet all the responsibility for holding the students and saving the institution's financial bacon. Some mistake surely?! #LTHEchat

I had a convo today with a colleague who said that while research colleagues got emails about how they could be supported in their research, T&S colleagues got emails about how to add alt text to Moodle images #LTHEChat

A5 I think finding out whether staff on all types of contracts and in all different roles feel that their contribution is valued #LTHEchat

Safety in numbers - we need to work together and build our SoTL communities #LTHEchat

A4 sadly, I’m struggling to think of anything positive to say here. Too many examples recently of T&S staff being pushed down rather than built up #LTHEchat

Do you also explore what educational research could and should be? Especially if we are commited to education for social justice and EDI - we should be opening our arms - not closing those doors?! #LTHEchat
comment in response to post
Not forgotten imo - but deliberately excluded - and represents a fundamental failing in our HEI culture. If we are part of learning institutions, all should be supported to learn through reflecting and publishing our practice. Especially shameful in HEI committed to EDI! #LTHEchat

A2. People on teaching & scholarship contracts who aren’t entered in the REF and sit outside of conversations about disciplinary “Research”. Teaching fellows, T&S scholars, student education professional service staff, pedagogical scholars. They are so forgotten in research culture spaces #LTHEChat

When we wanted to go for PhD by prior publication - they sneered and said we were not theoretical enough - one of our triumvirate went instead to Plymouth and received that PhD - we decided we'd been hurt enough!
comment in response to post
THAT seems to be something that should be written about and shared in a #Take5 blog? Would you like to do that? Please get in touch?

A4. At Leeds, there is a sense that research culture is a collective responsibility and something we can shape together. It’s talked about a lot in lots of different spaces and there’s a clear sense that culture is what we “do” #LTHEChat

A3 When we prioritise research integrity and forget to also care about the researcher experience. When we put concern about rigour before kindness. When what’s good for research is in conflict with what’s good for researchers #LTHEChat

HEI seem to be actively de-volving - deliberately excluding PSD and teach only academiics from having the space and time to be research active in terms of developing and reflecting upon and writng up their own practice. #LTHEchat
comment in response to post
Even if you have to do that research - along with the burgeoning levels of admin that HEI keep inventing - in your own time! :-( #LTHEchat

Not sure that is just eurocentric - but any hierarchical and unequal culture where only certain forms of capital are valued and where the many must be excluded to make space for the privileged few. Ironic when EDI institutions replicate these social divisions in re research #LTHEchat

A3 An self-centred, neoliberal Eurocentric western culture where only the I is important. Also not valuing slow, deep worked but soundbites. Gujarati saying "and few dried chickpeas in a jar make alot of noise" 😉 #LTHEChat

A3 From a SoTL perspective not sharing what we are doing in our practice and not having mentors to get started #LTHEchat
comment in response to post
A3 torn between capitalism and the patriarchy and 'the government not understanding that education is the foundation of a society and instead of investing in a sector that has a higher ROI than the construction industry they keep cutting' as answer hm #LTHEchat
comment in response to post
Absolutely - also hate the blinkered notion that there is only disciplinary research - and that what we do in our work, when we reflect and want to explore our practice in writng and through writing, that is also valuable research #LTHEchat
comment in response to post
I sympathise with your precarious position! Personally I don't want to prove membership, I want them to accept that there is not a hierarchy with research at the top, and the rest of us supporting them. #LTHEChat
comment in response to post
Sadly not true - many actively disenfanchised: PSD staff & lecture only staff - or a lecture only focus for the majority of staff - makes no time for research - and can make engagement actively transgressive #LTHEchat
