Star Wars Back to the Future Jurassic Park Mission: Impossible X-Men The Lord of the Rings

Today I prepared this Thursday’s lecture on psychoanalytical theory and dream logic in film. Selected scenes from: SPELLBOUND FIGHT CLUB BACK TO THE FUTURE PARASITE ADAPTATION. MULHOLLAND DR. VERTIGO LOST HIGHWAY EYES WIDE SHUT

For some reason, this Carrie Fisher line reading always stuck with me.

In The Hague today with my family, joining a national protest in support of Palestine, demanding the Dutch government finally draws a red line. Absolutely massive turnout here: MASSES of people of all ages, all dressed in red. 💪🏻✊🏻🇵🇸

At this point, people need to realize that the government, Big Tech, the Military Industrial Complex, and the capitalists are all interconnected in a tangled web of financial interests. When you use AI to create bullshit like this, you're enriching the very entities that you claim to oppose.

It's officially live! "Someone is at your Front Door" is an artistic research on the smart doorbell. -> someoneisatyourfrontdoor.com 💥 Many thanks to @lauraodbeke.bsky.social, @simoonhermus.bsky.social, @zeno4ever.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy, @danhf.bsky.social, Stimuleringsfonds & CBK Rotterdam

Democrats:

“Our courageous stormtroopers, who are daily being subjected to doxxing and murder threats, are HEROES.”

If you see this, share a skeleton

“The difficult aspects of this episode – the pacing, the violence, the lack of resolution – set the tone for the show’s decline in popularity. Yet, it is these aspects that, in retrospect, have made #TwinPeaks a cult success and kept it relevant to current trends in television.” Now on Mubi!!

Got my ticket to see David Byrne's new tour in February. Woo-hoo!

Today at 4 PM, I'll give a talk on the relationship between science fiction and economics at the Dutch National Bank, as part of the festivities surrounding the 750th anniversary of the city of Amsterdam this year. [in Dutch] www.denieuweschatkamer.nl/agendaoverzi...

I’d forgotten that THE GRIFTERS features two of my all-time favorite character actors sharing the screen.

america is like siegfried and roy and fascism is like that tiger they kept around for years until one day it mauled one of them. people were like “ehhh it probably won’t happen” but deep down they knew it was only a matter of time. and now here we are in 2025. reading the siegfried and roy wiki

Something I wish liberals - and, for that matter, a lot of leftists - would internalize: The goal is not to out-argue, disprove, fact-check, debate, or point out the inconsistencies or hypocrisies of fascists. The goal is to defeat them.

After obsessing over little else but the rising tide of fascism for at least a decade, it’s still kind of a shock to see it happen on live TV.

I really do believe that 95% of what happened here was police state muscle memory: they saw a protesting brown man and did what they do to protesting brown men and only a beat later someone was like "oh wait, uh"

Tough one, but I'm gonna have to go with COMMANDO

TIL that the script for WHAT LIES BENEATH was written by Clark Gregg, the actor probably best known for playing Agent Coulson in the MCU.

How I take criticism
