Jon Berti at first base?
comment in response to post
At least the cubs have other dudes on the bench who can hit like Vidal Brujan and Nicky Lopez
comment in response to post
Can he play a passable 3B in the majors?
comment in response to post
Matt Shaw made 3 errors in 34 chances
comment in response to post
They really Schruted the backup plan at 3B

B - the electric blue on A is awesome but I hate the white piping between the bill and the hat

Love how he’s responded after Friday. This team is capable of overcoming bullpen implosions like nobody else

Any chance of a Wicks call up to piggyback? I can’t imagine Rea being able to go more than four innings and they aren’t going to want to decimate the pen right before three in SD
comment in response to post
Yes. And the last loss was a blown four run lead where Colin Rea would have been an ideal piggyback
comment in response to post
Second straight loss where the bullpen has to work a lot of innings and fails while the guy being paid $5 million to presumably eat innings in a game exactly like this is nowhere to be found. Hope the starters go deep the next couple days, pen will be limited after this one.

The last thing I need before 7 is to hear Rob Manfred waxing poetic about pancakes

The Cubs designated Alexander Canario to make room for Justin Turner - feels likely to be traded or claimed on waivers

Brisket sucks
comment in response to post
Yeah that’s all fine. Meh is the best way to describe it
comment in response to post
Sure. But Brujan is also out of options with no path to playing time right? He’d be behind Berti for any time on the infield. Unless he’s the plan for backup centerfield. Which. Yeesh
comment in response to post
Wouldn’t Brujan have made more sense as the corresponding move? Maybe Canario wasn’t going to make the team anyway but I would have thought the Turner signing pushes Brujan out of a spot anyway.

Please let this end soon

I would say the tweets check the “if he’s a bad dude” box

In 2016?

Feels like such a no brainer for the cubs to be involved. A meaningful rotation upgrade that fits within the 2025 budget and the cubs certainly have the pieces to swing a deal.
comment in response to post
Dude is beyond clueless on all things not football. Unlistenable
comment in response to post
The best part of that would be that he wouldn’t be able to feast on cubs pitching anymore
comment in response to post
Still helplessly hoping for one more move that pushes Brujan out and Berti to that last bench spot

Cubs put on their big boy pants and sign Bregman
comment in response to post
Oh good. A new way for the cubs to lose out on a player.

So maybe $5 million for a redundant depth starter wasn’t a great plan?
comment in response to post
He said that last year too in the same interview where he said the roadblock to eclipsing the CBT was more revenue
comment in response to post
But then how would we know that they had to trade Cody Bellinger to free up enough cash to sign a pitcher who doesn’t have any more upside than about four different in-house fifth starter options?
comment in response to post
15. All cubs
comment in response to post
They couldn’t get Castillo? 😉

Maybe the Cubs, who haven’t won a playoff game in seven years, should consider changing the way they handle stuff like this. Notorious for waiting as long as possible? Don’t spend big money on the bullpen? Refuse to pay market rate for tier 1/2 stars? None of this is working. Make the playoffs
comment in response to post
I don’t even get the Rea/Boyd signings from a cost cutting perspective. Why throw that kind of money at a couple dudes instead of just relying on internal depth. This franchise seems to have no direction. Which is maybe why they haven’t won a playoff game in seven years.
comment in response to post
This is gross. Pathetic. Disgraceful. Tom Ricketts and Jed Hoyer have successfully made baseball not fun. Congrats to everyone
comment in response to post
So they are likely gonna go to arb with a 2.5 million dollar difference on the legit superstar they just traded a top prospect for one year of. And then the next day hand double that amount a below average pitcher who does not improve the rotation? Lotta offseason left but this is a horrible look
comment in response to post
Surprised this wasn’t buried with the big news yesterday that we now have Matt Festa
comment in response to post
Agreed, he shouldn’t be “tried out” as the closer. But I think long term he might be the best suited in the org for high leverage relief. Not sure where he fits this year in terms of starter depth so he might end up getting some good relief innings as the year goes on

When you feel ashamed of your 8

“…ownership could be considering hiring a PBO with more experience in building contenders on limited budgets” is the saddest possible statement that a cubs fan could read on NYE. What a pathetic disgrace.
comment in response to post
Do you have Workman getting returned to Detroit?
comment in response to post
I also doubt the Cubs are actually discussing this. But it’s infuriating that things have gotten to the point with this franchise where national reporters are treating the them like a farm where all the serious teams can just pluck good pieces from.
comment in response to post
This man. I was feeling blah about 2025 and now I’m so excited. Couldn’t care less right now about anything beyond 2025, looking forward to fun baseball now
comment in response to post
So basically plenty of space for Bregman
comment in response to post
Why are you mentioning Gil right now at this moment?
comment in response to post
Let’s do this. I’d much rather see them make a bold move and push in than to sit back and hope guys exceed their projections. Let’s get back to baseball being fun rather than an excruciating exercise in value engineering an 86 win team.
