Yeah. I definitely agree with that point. Though as a New Yorker, I think we were a bit ahead of the rest of the country in starting to see paramilitary cops. Lots of that post-9/11. But agree it’s been much longer standing in Europe

True, but also, heavily armed European police are super chill. Not in tactical gear. Friendly enough. Don’t think they’re Rambo

There should be more festivals celebrating food wrapped in dough. Dumplings, pierogies, empanadas, ravioli, pasties, blintzes, samosas, momos….i would definitely go to that festival

I mean, I do think the social contract around speeding is broken. That’s been true for decades. Having a law that few follow and giving police discretion to decide who to prosecute is a broken social contract

@rebeccasolnit.bsky.social’s A Paradise Built In Hell is absolutely worth reading if you haven’t. Your experience lines up perfectly with the reality of disaster recovery she writes about

Based on the utter delight that people (and by people I mean my kids) exhibit on the R211Ts, I'm all in on open gangway trains

I grew up on the Boston Baroque recording of the Levin completion. The normal Sussmayr version sounds “wrong” as a result. But yeah, they’re all kinda mind blowing.
