Let’s be honest. Instead of, “We’re moving away from DEI.” we should tell the truth and say, "White men aren't actually competitive in an open labor market, so we need to create exclusionary policies to keep other, more qualified candidates of color from being employed." Because that’s the truth.

I don't know I read that thread and the part that jumped out most to me was the snide remark about the student's mom absent any context that would suggest this person knew her. I guess dad had no responsibility ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

large swaths of american elites — and not just conservatives — experienced 2020 as a crisis of social reproduction. they will do whatever it takes to make sure keyleigh and dylan never post an instagram black square ever again

**** Judge Sessions GRANTS BAIL/RELEASE to Rümeysa Öztürk: "The court finds that [Rümeysa Öztürk's] continued detention cannot stand."

I don't know you that well but I've seen you post/tweet about this family for many years now. From afar, you look like someone who handles really awful people with more grace than they probably deserve. Sending hugs your way.

This Rümeysa Öztürk hearing is radicalizing.
I've been a court reporter for many years, and I've never covered anything like this: A student deeply committed to her studies, imprisoned solely over writing an op-ed, being made to testify under oath for her own freedom.
Dark, dark stuff.

This does not appear to even include the person who was elected?

"What does viewpoint diversity actually mean?" — this is a question many people have been asking the press and commentators on campus politics for years now to no avail. It's a shame that it's taken a predictable assault on American higher education to get them to consider it.

oh I guess I wasn't referring to academic or not but rather readable vs slog (I'd put propaganda in that later category, for instance)

Grants don't increase salary, generally they buy faculty out of teaching obligations but that money doesn't go directly to faculty it goes to the university

A good selection. I would add Benjamin McKean's Disorienting Neoliberalism to the pile

We're talking about a man who famously doesn't pay his contractors, employees, bills, etc. It is not an exaggeration to say he doesn't understand what it means to buy something

Nope. “Setting new priorities” would include not funding *future* projects that deal with XYZ.
Cancelling existing contracts without notice, appeal, or cause beyond “we signed this contract before, but now we don’t wanna” is just illegal violation of contract law.
Please stop normalizing this.
