New albums released today by two artists I have listened to almost more than anyone over the last three decades, Cosey Fanni Tutti and Neil Young. And boy, one of these albums is a lot better than the other.

On the bus home, a man was teaching his daughter to blow through her hands to make an owl hoot. Everybody (including father and daughter) was grinning and silently egging her on, and I had to stay on an extra stop to see if she could master it.

The most inspiring thing about Brian Wilson was in a late period documentary (BBC4?) where he does seem a bit adrift until the interviewer does a quick fire round of "What's your favourite song by..." (Beatles, Four Tops, Martha and the Vandellas, etc etc) and he fired right up into life and joy.
