This kind of appointment can only be a success if allowed time. Mason has great pedigree, he’s worked with some top managers, but he’s still an apprentice who’s going to make mistakes. If he’s yet another one who doesn’t even get through one season then I despair.

It was bought long ago. The richest clubs have always been the most successful.

No different to when Chelsea or City won it. The sports long gone, a rich man’s play thing for years now. I like that they’ve only won it after ditching the superstar project however. And Luis Enrique is a good egg.

I believe many Chelsea fans aren’t too enamoured with him either. It’s crap to watch. Yet seemingly successful.

I am truly hoping those senior grifters are sold or sidelined - the club cannot just let them continue to burn through managers in the way they have before. Even the fans all damn well know their game by now. If they phone it in yet again then we’ll recognise it and call it out, in the ground.

Well, maybe Mason delivered a thoroughly convincing interview! He’s worked with some top managers so perhaps that’s been a great education for him. I’d be interested to see who he has as an assistant manager, maybe he’ll be the experienced one.

Aye, don’t disagree. Feels like the intention is a new young head coach leading a new young team. I’m fine with that, with no expectation of promotion. Albion need to rebuild the foundations first, and it takes time.

Might be the next Kieran McKenna for all we know. We’re just going to have to wait and find out. Hard to win over the horribly toxic Albion fanbase of today though.

Agreed. I wish him well too, I mean why wouldn’t you - any Albion fan who doesn’t, because he isn’t proven/fashionable enough, needs to realise they and their toxic opinionated shite are the problem at the club (along with certain dressing room presences).

“A bunch of senior players who fear aspiration and pressure” is absolute nail on the head stuff Chris. It defines what Albion have been for years now.

Haha. They don’t bother with the hiring, just the firing.

There’s a certain, recently discarded WBA manager who laid the foundations of the Sunderland team who went up. The kind we needed to reset the culture at Albion, bring through young lads, bin off older wasters. Opportunity lost now though.

Wattville Road, about 10 mins walk from the stadium and free to park on.

Ridiculously dogmatic in his refusal to ever change formation. United have embarrassed themselves yet again with another bad hire. I like the guy, but any manager who doesn’t fit his system around the strengths of their players is deluded.

We’ll know if he has an accident

Difficult, in the current climate of the majority of the nation being so annoyed by mass immigration. I think the youth scheme will come back eventually though.

I don’t like to chuck the racism card about unless it’s demonstratively the case, but there can be no denying that there’s always at least a whiff, if not a stench, of bigotry with many on that side. The ideology seems to be hatred of the EU and any ties to them no matter the cost to British people.

We’re not back in the EU, we just have a better trade deal with them now, thanks to having grown ups in government again, at long last. Starmer and Labour aren’t perfect but my God, they’re a significant improvement on who we had in charge previously. This is obvious to all except the ideologues.

Imagine, in 4 years time, they win power and remove the benefits people and businesses have just got back and are relieved to enjoy once more. Reintroducing passport queues, red tape, singular pet passports etc and all the expense attached. And all for what? Fish?

Disappointed that you’re including adverts in the pod when listening on The Athletic app now. The app was great when there were no ads and made it worth the subscription fee. Love the Totally pod, don’t taint it with ads!
