I'm afraid I haven't used Kit, but since you mentioned other recommendations, I switched from Mailchimp (TinyLetter) to Buttondown a little over a year ago, and it's been a good experience!

The history of what people have thought dicyemids are is whole a story in itself (which I'm currently writing for a lecture and manuscript).
