P.S. It is STUNNING. Some of the best argonaut art (artgonaut? argonart?) I've ever seen. This gorgeous cover is now my desktop background

I don't know if I ever would have gotten around to drawing about them if you hadn't poked me!

I'm afraid I haven't used Kit, but since you mentioned other recommendations, I switched from Mailchimp (TinyLetter) to Buttondown a little over a year ago, and it's been a good experience!

what. what. WHAT how did I not know about these UTTERLY BAROQUE shell openings pardon me while I jump into a research rabbit hole or, like, a research oncocerid aperture I guess

Ha! It is very funny that "taxes" can be the plural of both "tax" (money to the gov't) and "taxis" (directional movement).

I got so absorbed reading your post I forgot to respond! Thanks much for the link; I missed it when it first went up. The mystery of dicyemids CAPTIVATED me when I first learned about them in college; it's wild that a quarter of a century later we still don't have answers! Excited to read your ms!

The funny thing about those parasites is that we don't even know what they are exactly dailyparasite.blogspot.com/2024/12/dicy... The history of what people have thought dicyemids are is whole a story in itself (which I'm currently writing for a lecture and manuscript).

Eutely breaks my brain every time I think about it too hard. Good thing it's the subject of the comic's second panel, nothing can go wrong here

Yes! As befits its stature, E. dofleini hosts a dicyemid parasite that is "a large species that reaches about 12,000 μm in length." meridian.allenpress.com/journal-of-p...

HOORAY Canada, full of democracy and dicyemids!! And thank you so much--I still have a lot to learn about these markers and it's lovely to hear kind words about the coloring.

...and so many more that I've yet to discover! Endless gratitude to every bookseller, every patron, and to the whole indie bookstore ecosystem. #IndependentBookstoreDay

I felt very lucky to be able to stop at Chaucer's the last time I was in Santa Barbara to sign some copies of THE LIVES OF OCTOPUSES AND THEIR RELATIVES and THE LADY AND THE OCTOPUS! #IndepedentBookstoreDay FTW chaucersbooks.com

I loved visiting @mystgalaxybooks.bsky.social as part of an author panel for PUTTING THE SCIENCE IN FICTION! They gave me tentacle finger puppets AND let me draw tentacles in their book 🥹 This is also where I met the incredible @gwenckatz.bsky.social 🤩

My first bookstore event for my first book, SQUID EMPIRE (now MONARCHS OF THE SEA) was at the magnificent @greenapplebooks.bsky.social who were so welcoming of me and my squid! (Please note that "live" refers to the event, not the squid. Also I am much better at squid dissection than photo editing)
