Here in north London we say COYS - I’m doing that Sunday, while tomorrow I am grabbing some precious escapism by gently jamming with a lovely, no stress, no pressure musicians who like to get in the zone. I’ll still be saying fuck off Nazi scum but not letting it freak me out for a few hours.

Re-reading The Log From The Sea of Cortez for the billionth time for the cosiness, a biog of Jacques Costeau by Richard Munson, The Practicing Stoic by Ward Farnsworth (a go to when I’m feeling blue) and a new book, The Strand by Geoff Browell and Eileen Chanin.

Wait…what?!? How the…!?! Such a gorgeous mix of talent, craft, application, graft, technique and all those other cool words about people getting down to doing something they’re bloody good at. Thanks for sharing a real reminder of what’s cool about our species (as opposed to the usual what’s not!)

In the UK, we have a long and illustrious tradition of visiting the town of Grantham to pay our respects to Evil Edna, the milk snatcher, Maggie the Friedman Thatch, the source of many woes. May she rest uncomfortably.

That’s a lovely dog…splat. I need some Cornwall air in me hair and some Cornish pats under me flats. Looks delightful. Enjoy.

Here’s a pic we have on my parents sitting room wall: Nat second on the left and standing next to him is his girlfriend, Ramona, a Spanish woman he met in Barcelona, and who returned to the UK with him after the war. He’d have got on well with your wonderful Uncle Morrie. Best wishes, comrade.

Here’s a pic of my grandparents at the Battle of Cable Street in London, 1936. My great uncle Nat Cohen was one of the first British volunteers to fight Fascism in the Spanish Civil War. I feel rather lame in comparison, but will hold their examples and memory dear. It’s our turn. No Pasaran!

I’m so tired of it - I hoped for a govt that tackled voters who have concerns about immigration head on by bravely stating the truth - immigration is not the problem. Having a welfare state and social policy wrecked by 40 years of Neo-liberalism is the issue. Why can’t anyone be honest about this?

After 25 years, if you’ve paid a rent /mortgage hybrid, the council ‘buys’ the property off you at a rate that acknowledges your contribution, leaving you with funds to retire on/ pass on to offspring etc. so we have the benefits of social housing and appease those who see it as an asset invested in

I write for a newspaper and have no problem writing 1,000, 2,000 word pieces (and to my sub-eds horror, find it hard to stick within my word counts). The book I'm currently working on, and with previous ones, I've broken the narrative into similar bite sized chunks. That really helps for me.
