your problem is you're still reading WaPo

I'd love to see Musk and whomever he means by "we" run off to space, like, next week. I'm sure it will go well for them.

Nah...play Ice Ice Baby as loud as you can so everyone in the neighborhood knows they're there

Let Elon turn hard to philanthropy and start solving problems with his money not his mouth and maybe he can be on a redemption arc. short of that F*** 'im.

To my eye it's less about his mental health than his mental fitness after his stroke. The reality seems to be that he had a cerebral accident and his behavior and views changed dramatically afterword. This would suggest some change in cognition that should at least be part of the conversation.

It's long past time to ignore the NYT. I seldom click through to any post linking to them because i just know it's going to be a garbage take.

Voter suppression, racism, misogyny, apathy and likely a dash of vote manipulation by Musk. perfect storm and just a precursor to 2026.

One side of this debate is asking for compassion, via healthcare and human rights, for every marginalized sector of our population, and the other side is sending people to prisons in south sudan. wins for Democrats mean better lives, wins for republicans mean richer billionaires. see?

Who cares what Elin thinks? He's an idiot who has proven over and over that his acumen at acquiring tech that others have developed is his only skill, plus, he's a Nazi.

There's no place for violence in Governance, but all politics is violence if you're not in the ruling class.

Garbage takes like this are why i won't ever subscribe to WSJ.

This is interesting, and I would have clicked through to read the article, but last I checked Bezos still controls the newsdesk, so...no thanks.
comment in response to post
Too much both-sides-isms the past decade to earn my dollars, sorry. I fully support my local public radio stations for their programming, but NPR's national news desk failed this country in their coverage of 45 and the authoritarian right, so now we have 47 and NPR is complicit.

Bob Dylan's got a discography long enough to have some latter career gems. Freewheelin came out in '62, so take your pick from after '77. Too bad Desire came out in '76 -- that was perhaps his last inarguable masterpiece.

Imagine Boebert or MTG or many of the other magas in congress having to listen to this. Their heads would explode at all of the terms he's using, all of the science that butts up against their worldview. Sagan so correctly predicted the dumbing down of our society.

Who got it wrong? Harris and Walz were shouting it from the rooftops. 47 himself was telling us exactly what he was going to do. There was a playbook (project 2025). So, if you think people misdiagnosed the threat perhaps you shouldn't be taking a front seat analyzing the current moment either.

I'm midway through and loving it. well done Emily!

One of the very few fun things about an Orange Cheeto presidency is watching his unqualified bozos fail so publicly that they end up leaving in disgrace.

Trump isn't trying to help anyone but himself, full stop.
comment in response to post
It would make more sense if he weren't a moron too.

Always helps to remember that when he speaks every accusation is an admission.

'Because he's an idiot' is the new 'Christ, what an asshole', the caption to every 47 era cartoon
comment in response to post
Well yes, because we are teachers and healthcare providers and firemen as well as cogs in the wheels of industry. Historically speaking did other cultures simply stop working during catastrophic eras? WWI? WWII? The Spanish Flu?
comment in response to post
It certainly is clear that there is malice aplenty in the current regime though, so there's that.

I'm torn over this. These tariffs should erode consumer confidence as a signal that they are wrong, not give 47 an economic boost. Yes, i could use a few things, but NO, I won't play this game. Just gonna make do with what i've got.

Exactly.

were you just born? the internet has been this way since day 1. don't want a reaction, don't post a take. in this case i am just genuinely curious how they discern between a satellite photo and a robot photo for verisimilitude?
comment in response to post
Such a strange take. This was likely taken by a satellite probe, also a type of robot, and how do you not find pictures taken from the surface, where you might actually stand, to make it real for you?

The idea that people are "illegal" is mostly just wrong, and a figment of the right's imagination.
comment in response to post
This is another example of badly the left loses the battle to frame arguments. These immigrants are mostly undocumented. read that again: undocumented. There are lots of reasons that someone would not yet have a fully documented status, many of which are legal.

If you didn't expect a heavy dose of war crimes from this bunch you've been asleep at the wheel.
comment in response to post
Oh goodie, let's see if their both-sides-isms will save them.

If nothing else remember that the opposition NEVER stopped campaigning. From the moment Biden won DJT was on the trail holding rallies. Tiem for Dems to do the same. Keep the pressure on throughout the election cycle and never let up.
comment in response to post
The very first thing they should be made to go after is theology. after all , there are different religions, so any religious belief, especially those that have a history of causing wars, should be a banned subject. see how long the conservatives take to reverse course.

yes, it does look like corporate shopping zones along the truck routes through towns, but it also looks like farmland turned into cookie cutter developments, and destitute main streets killed by walmart and amazon fulfillment centers
comment in response to post
I think this is a mischaracterization of the US based on a trip along the interstate highway system. I've been to all 50 states, and MAGA land looks different in each of them, because it's based on a nostalgia for a small town america that has been swept away by endless growth and poor development
comment in response to post
I'm for any efforts to resist this admin, but impeachment, with both houses of congress in their hands, just seems like pissing into the wind. How does anyone envision this happening?
comment in response to post
Makes you wonder why this act was not revoked after WWII
comment in response to post
I thought Dems were behind the scenes together on messaging and actions, and now Schumer sells out and makes it easy on the Repubs. Gross. No way am i donating to Dems until they get their shit together and actually resist this coup.
comment in response to post
WaPo is garbage, so even if I were interested in this article i won't give them clicks.
comment in response to post
As much as I hate him and want him gone this is just such a waste of breath. The house is full of MAGA , so there's no way they'll vote to impeach, and even if they did the senate is Red, and won't vote to convict.

47 doesn't care about the meaning of words. He'll say mandate because he knows his base, and knows that the media will repeat his words.
