as @beyerstein.bsky.social’s quote here notes, “be nice to antivaxxers” has not worked.

Honestly the entire New York delegation can all go to hell. Exceptions for AOC and Jerry Nadler and Nydia Velázquez (and maybe a one or two others), but everyone else should be primaried into oblivion.

They [rightly] call Trump a fascist, then said they’d work with him. They [rightly] call on Cuomo to resign, then support his attempted political comeback. This is why people do not trust the democratic establishment: they keep showing they have no real principles, just pathetic fingers to the wind.

‘We had the same moral panic about TV’ is a common refrain when people bring up social media, but like, in terms of social-political impacts, it’s hard to not see the ‘moral panic’ about TV as at least partially vindicated! A reality TV star is president! He’s filling his admin with Fox News hosts!

I’m still baffled at how America took one of the basic principles of the presidency — the occupant shouldn’t be able to benefit financially from the office — and just said, nah, that just doesn’t count for this one guy.

what if there were laws, but for -- the president -- ICE -- rich people wouldn't that be fuckin wild

Whoa, whoa, pump the brakes there, Robespierre

It was such a mistake to not abolish ICE when we had the chance, and all the concern-trolling moderates who wrung their hands and clucked their tongues about the slogan were horribly wrong.

True story: When I was a contractor at a NASA facility I kept M&Ms on my desk. A civil servant I worked with ate a few one day. The next day I came in to find a pound bag on my desk. He wanted to "reimburse" me because he didn't want the few he ate to be seen as a gift. Anyway

THERE IS ONLY ONE POLITICAL PARTY THAT PUT OUT A SEVERAL HUNDRED PAGE DOCUMENT AIMED AT STOPPING YOU GETTING LAID AND HAVING FUN AND THEY ARE CURRENTLY ENACTING ALL OF IT AND SPOILER ALERT IT'S NOT THE DEMOCRATS JESUS FUCKING CHRIST

Wait does this mean we can use religious exemptions for good?? "I can't use AI, the Pope says it's a sin." 🥹

Columbia seems intent on burying itself in an apparently bottomless pit of shame.

Columbia, the university that administers the Pulitzer Prizes, with a brutal crackdown on press freedom. There are no words for this Shame on Claire Shipman

The “culture war” frame is a weasly way to avoid saying that this segregationist administration is institutionalizing white male supremacy in the nation’s military academies. “white supremacist purge strikes West Point” is more accurate. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/08/u...

god it's so good

the pope is a dual citizen of a latin american country at a time that the US president is torturing folks from across latin america so thats interesting

I think it is honestly a bit under-appreciated that one big reason why we are where we are as a nation is that three of the last four Republican presidents have been dumber than a box of nails.

the fundamental disconnect between the manosphere and reality is that they are incapable of understanding that this is - according to every woman I’ve ever met - the sexiest thing a man has ever done

On Friday evening, the National Endowment for the Arts sent emails to hundreds of arts orgs, rescinding previously-awarded grants that do not align with the administration’s new priorities. One of those priorities is, evidently, to “foster AI competency.”

My fellow New Yorkers: Banish this man. Banish him forever.

Two things often overlooked in discussions about compulsory voting: 1) It makes it very hard to intimidate people out of voting 2) It makes voter suppression tactics we see Republicans use in the US, like restricting early voting, and having few polling booths, ineffective.

This is the official White House account.

9% of Americans have a favourable or somewhat favourable view of the Black Death. 17% don’t know. RFK’s work here is done.

This feels a lot like that early period of Covid when some people were shouting about how bad it was going to be while guys like Trump and Musk were predicting it would be over by April.

Canada’s Pierre Poilievre went from having a commanding 20-point lead and being a lock for Prime Minister to losing his own seat in Parliament. Just a stunning reversal in fortune. www.politico.eu/article/pier...
