Here’s a proposal: Gay marriage can be banned, but for every gay couple who apply to be married and are turned away, a Southern Baptist preacher must be executed. I understand that your ‘values’ are very important to you, so I assume you’ll be more than happy to sacrifice your lives to uphold them?

The eternal curse of the editor. I’m reading an otherwise-very-good story and have now been twice thrown out of the narrative by basic errors. You cannot take over a dead man’s business because he had no family and then donate the proceeds of said business to the dead man’s family! FFS.

Why do I even bother sitting in the Quiet Carriage? 🤦‍♂️

If you gave me a dollar for every day that elapsed between the RBA dropping the cash rate and my bank dropping the interest rate on my mortgage, then took away a dollar for every day between the RBA *raising* the rate and my bank *increasing* my mortgage payment, I would have about $1 million.

Would Now be a good time for someone to tell Elon Musk about Claus von Stauffenberg?

Cool. But this doesn’t mean we stop hating on Tesla. Apart from the need to punish Musk for his many crimes, he’s made it clear he can’t be trusted with so much wealth. Drive Tesla into the ground until Musk leaves the company altogether.

It is a source of great mystery to me how both my (adult!) daughters can know which cupboard the toaster comes out of, but not which cupboard it goes back into after you’ve finished using it. Oh well. I guess some things are just unknowable …

@guygavrielkay.bsky.social I just read your interview in the latest Locus and it made me sadly aware of how long it’s been since we discussed things great and small over a dram (Saratoga Springs in 2007?). I don’t see a trip to Canada in my immediate future; any plans for an Australian tour? 🤞

Add a letter, ruin a movie: All the President’s Menu

For reasons that are not clear to me, I’ve suddenly realised it’s been decades – DECADES! – since I’ve read a Charles de Lint book. That can’t be right, can it? What am I doing with my life?

Fuck the industry. Pay up or train your resource-wasting labour-replacement engines on something else. Parasites.

Congratulations to @simonguy.bsky.social, @jonwoodagent.bsky.social & my other Spurs-supporting friends whose BSky handles I can’t remember. We were both 💩 throughout the season, but I’m a big enough man to applaud the slightly less 💩 team. See you in the Championship in the season after next! 😂😳

Massive congratulations to the excellent @ghostspecies.bsky.social on winning the Douglas Stewart Prize for Non-Fiction in the NSW Literary Awards! Cheers, James! 🥂

You mean the boys at Normandy who were fighting against people just like you, you grubby little fascist?

Oh no! Whatever will I do?!😱😂 Seriously. Random, Trump-like capitalisation, a nonsensical URL and the expectation that I’ll believe the Australian government is contacting me using a number in the Philippines. Come on, guys, at least *try* to look like you want to steal my money. 🤦‍♂️

Well, it’s progress of a sort, I suppose, but what a shallow talent pool the Liberal Party has. I guess that’s what happens when you marginalise anyone who accepts scientific evidence and doesn’t actively advocate for cruelty and corruption.

The fact that ‘conservative Christian’ is a contradiction in terms has never been more clearly obvious than in the reactions of the MAGA nutjobs losing their minds (such as they are) over the election of a pope who condemns cruelty. Conservative OR Christian. Pick a lane, dickheads.

Bloody hell! Four freelance queries in two days! That’s a new personal record. Of all the travails the world can throw at me it looks like boredom won’t be one of them!

This celebration of Anthony Green is extraordinary. Every living prime minister from both major parties paying tribute is unexpectedly moving. End of an era.
