This has been my exp too. Way too many "no goalie just kick" players who leave the goal open and just don't care.
But the game is hella fun.

Pretty much all Hux's are Lessers.
Except Millicent. Obviously.

There is a bit of a Looney Tunes element to side-stepping the law like that. But that's basically how it works in the real world. Some law / tax regulation is impinging on your business? Cool, form a subsidiary that meets the exception or loophole and merrily ignore it.
high comedy.

Like Kyle and Hux the Lesser are out there scheming up ridiculously complicated means of overtaking the galaxy...
meanwhile Sienar and Blastech are just adding another word to their name during space-brunch and laughing at the New Republic all the way to the space-bank.

Seriously. Just inventing new shells or subsidiaries. So while the known manufacturer is very compliant with the NR regulation, the subsidiary that is *definitely a diff company* is just selling starfighter parts and laser cannons hither and yon to those FO weirdos.

Not that laws are going to stop criminals (Imperial remnant/FO) from doing crimes, but one of the funnier (to me) reasons it doesn't work is a bunch of the known weapon manufacturers circumvent the regulations/laws in a really simple way.
They just make new companies. That's it.

And as you read, don't forget to spend a moment with Charles' rather epic acknowledgements. Hard to put your arms around just exactly how many people mattered, to make this whole endeavor happen.
But Charles accomplished that as well, which is no surprise. They're all here.

I'll just take an order of "maybe I have a headache because I haven't eaten today", with a side of "oh gosh is that *really* what time it is?"
And an order of fries for the countertop.

This is not to say this book or any that I edit is "about me" in any way.
But, I believe the *best* stories come from when the writer/editor are comfortable enough being vulnerable together to mine their own experiences for ways to add verisimilitude to fiction.

I mean, its one of those things, that if folks love it, we're always open to do more. If they don't...well, then we probably won't.

That was a decision that author Justina Ireland made to give us a chance to go deep into Vernestra's character. And also see her in a way that we haven't in other novels that feature Vernestra Rwoh.
Other POVs and parts of the book - including Indara, are not first person.

It is opt in / opt out. For instance, I as the editor always opt out. Unless an author wants to include my name in the acknowledgements. That's just my (complicated) personal preference.

I - the manuscript editor -asked not to be included. As this section is still voluntary.
(Unless an author wants to put my name in a book, my personal preference as an editor is to not have a credit. Just my preference, I don't impose that on anyone else.)

Agreed. I never quite understood why its been default for comics since, forever. But for publishing its been ad hoc or only by author request, or several other kinds of inconsistent / arbitrary)
(I've never found a cogent reason why in all my research)

Beyond the deserved recognition for these folks who are oft unknown and thus under appreciated by readers, it also gives readers who are curious about publishing or keen on a career in it more transparency into the wide array of skill sets and career paths to consider.

In the most extreme circumstance of absolute spoiler preservation...I guess?
But we built this book 100% understanding it was releasing before Trials. The reveals and such are very limited and the story of Trials isn't spoiled.

Fun fact. The code name - which no one was ever going to see and thus never had to be all that tricksy - was Corma.
The Elvish word for "ring". It's a fellowship of "Luminous" 9 after all.

Because we had nine characters to feature, and really didn't want to short change any of them, we used this as the best opportunity to make a wraparound cover, something we haven't yet done for our THR books. Fitting for the story finale.

Fun fact. During development, this scene (and chapter) Rebecca and I referred to as the "Mighty Ducks 2" scene. Why? It has an extremely tenuous/oblique similarity to this scene in Mighty Ducks 2
