A lot of people don’t know that ERCOT (the independent state grid) is the exact reason why Texas has so much wind power. Renewable energy is exactly why the modern ERCOT was formed. GW Bush didn’t want other state govts involved in approvals.

If it is less than 50% to build affordable housing here, we are talking about comparing affordable housing in METRO areas. In terms of population density, HTX = Fremont. Fremont housing is still at least 1.5x Houston's cost. Cost of living is not an excuse since housing is #1 input in cost of living

Today, Texas generates 28% of the wind power in the US and will possibly continue to grow its market share. The other thing about Zephyr is that she compared upstate to New York to Texas as if they were comparable. Let's be real -- Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio are all top 10 cities by pop.

On the issue of energy, both failed to talk about ERCOT (Texas' grid) and GW Bush's governorship. GW famously created the current form of Texas' grid; its failures notwithstanding, the independence also allowed the grid to connect power projects QUICKLY. WIND WAS THE MOTIVATOR for this change. SB7

But Zephyr in particular just kept referring to the "oligarchy". Housing is a profoundly fragmented industry with no true national corporate player. In these local processes on housing, it is developers (most of the time small) with contractors (mostly small) against the "community".

I found this conversation with Saikat and Zephyr to be profoundly unsatisfying. It seems like both are trying to be political sloganeers without engaging in deep analysis of the issues you raised. Both dodged the indictment of the community process.

The capacity of educated people who believe in science and the betterment of society — ie northeast Asians — to manifest what would be laughed at as a quixotic dream here in the US should not be surprising. Let me be clear — America is not great.

I think you should be honest with this and point the blame where it belongs which is actually yourself. The NIMBYist
