Woke up to use the restroom and got started on the NYT spelling bee www.nytimes.com/badges/games...

Kid: I’m so chubby! Me: No you’re not! Kid: Yes I am! Me: Wait, what do you think chubby means? Kid: It means you’re naughty! Me: No! Chubby means you’re plump! Kid: No it doesn’t! It means you’re naughty! You’re trying to trick me! You are being chubby!

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

Did an epic walk in NYC yesterday. Started at the World Trade Center, walked through Chinatown, crossed the Williamsburg Bridge, walked up Bedford Ave from Williamsburg to Greenpoint, then crossed into Queens and walked to Long Island City before the rain finally stopped me

Watched Jean Smart give a dynamite performance in Call Me Izzy on Broadway, then got her autograph and we chatted about her amazing experience in Singapore

For the record, just in case it gets deleted again, Genius for T/ADEHLY on the Spelling Bee

Annoyed that I had to redo a whole Spelling Bee and also annoyed that LINGUAL and UNUNUNIUM didn’t count. But there, Queen Bee www.nytimes.com/badges/games...

Ugh I woke up at 5am to use the restroom and then solved the Spelling Bee - was two or so words away from Queen Bee but now it looks like it’s all been reset!

Okay as a huge Hacks fan and a Singaporean I was not expecting a final episode set mostly in my home country. Amazing

This Reddit/Tumblr discussion about the lack of phonics education in America brought up an interesting point: what if those arguments you have with randos on the Internet are because those people are literally not reading you correctly? www.reddit.com/r/CuratedTum...

You would think the NYT Games app would use correct grammar, but then you see “1 points”

Pope Leo XIV has a degree in mathematics, which means he understands the parabola of the Good Samaritan

The important question is: is the Pope a Cubs or White Sox fan?

I was hoping he would choose to stick with Robert as his papal name

That was fast!

I like stories about bad detectives told in Noh theatre form. I call the genre Noh Shit Sherlock

I watched this episode of Lip Sync Battle when it aired and I remember loving Zendaya doing Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic. Probably a top 5 Lip Sync Battle performance. But then she got totally obliterated by Tom Holland

Sparkling finale for the Righteous Gemstones last night. As someone raised in the evangelical church, I appreciated that this was one of the only shows that properly understood how to skewer church culture without skewering faith

You know your friends are speed solvers when you get sub-20 seconds in the NYT mini and you aren’t even in the top 3 (nor did I expect to be - had a typo that I had to correct)
