The reason we have a liveable planet is because of nature systems smothering the land - grassland, peatland, wetland, woodland - we cannot mitigate and offset against its entire destruction. At some point what’s left of this fragile, precious network of life will collapse. We are seeing it already.

The @wildjustice.bsky.social petition to ban driven grouse shooting has passed 97,000 signatures thanks to you. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70... Even I am fairly confident that we'll get 100,000 signatures, triggering a Westminster parliament debate, by 22 May. 22 April would be even better!

Single disabled people are already four times more likely to be falling behind on their bills, six times more likely to go cold and nine times more likely to skip meals. Cuts will make things worse www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/pol...

I’ve published my submission to the government’s Land Use consultation. DEFRA has proposed lots of bold and interesting ideas, many of which I support. But they also underestimate the scale of land use change needed to restore nature & fix water pollution. 1/🧵 whoownsengland.org/2025/03/12/m...

Brilliant submission by Guy here. It's essential that everyone who wants to see richer ecosystems in England also contributes to this consultation, however briefly, as many vested interests will defend the status quo. It's the first time in my life that we've had this chance. Let's not waste it.

Dear chancellor. You cannot have infinite growth in a finite system. And no growth on a dead planet. And “trickle down economics” has been proven to be a myth. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. All of this is a matter of fact not opinion.

Important new research out today concludes that English “water companies are adopting disinformation tactics similar to those used by the fossil fuel and tobacco industries with the widespread use of greenwashing to downplay the environmental harm they cause”. 👇 www.theguardian.com/environment/...

This is really concerning - surely not a quango undermining the will of the Scottish parliament to appease an industry with a history of criminality?

Labour's simplemindedness will be its downfall - and ours. You can't build and bulldoze your way out of the housing crisis. Unless you also change the system, you'll still leave millions without decent homes. My column today explains why. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

You know why it’s so much money per a bat? Because there are so few of them, because they’re rare (in the UK, and therefore very vulnerable, declining elsewhere too). That’s why you have to shell out loads of money on mitigation if you’re going to plough through their habitat.

1. The UK government’s pursuit of GDP growth at all costs is an assault on our natural wealth, which will impoverish us all. It might be able to massage the headline figures by converting the living world into money, but it does not improve our lives.🧵

How is the new Labour Government doing on the environment? 💚 banning bee killing pesticides. 💚 stronger nature role for national parks. 💚 land use framework due. But 💔 no chalk stream recovery pack. 💔 no wild beaver releases. 💔 no natural history gcse. 💔 growth more important than net zero 😳 ‼️

Fox hunting is NOT a 'sport'—it's cruelty disguised as tradition. There's nothing 'honourable' about chasing a terrified animal to exhaustion and death. Stop glorifying barbarism and END fox hunting NOW.

It's December 1st , I'm going for a slightly different advent this year– introducing 20 days of the worst fox hunting crimes from across the country with @huntsabs.bsky.social . Up first , the Avon Vale Hunt . . . We need a #RealBanNow

Livestock emissions are red Crop emissions are blue We're going to need to reduce emissions from food systems To stay within 1.5°C or even 2°

Protect the Wild is fighting to end hunting, stop snares, and save wildlife. But we need your help! Follow us for the latest updates, campaigns, and ways to take action. Together, we can make a difference!

All the important “big” accounts have moved here to Bluesky, and saying Threads is bad. I get it’s owned by Zuck, but what they don’t realise is we smaller accounts don’t get noticed here, where as we do on Threads. Don’t forget the little guys folks. Let’s see how much traction this gets.

This time of of year, I definitely channel fellow Wirralian and all round beautiful soul Paul O’Grady and his reaction to Christmas songs in November. I miss him. A lot.

Almost all mental health problems and mental illnesses are more common in autistic people than in the general population. This new publication by R . C . Psychiatry is an excellent resource for information and practical matters surrounding autism and mental health www.rcpsych.ac.uk/mental-healt...

We're sick of hearing the same old CRAP that hunting is somehow part of the "rural way of life". If you live in a rural area and you’re against fox hunting please share this and give us a follow. Let's see what rural people really think about hunting...

A message to BlueSky. The vile pastime of fox hunting is dying. REPOST and follow @protectthewild.bsky.social and be part of the movement to create a future where wildlife can live in peace.

Hurray! Chris Packham's here. @chrisgpackham.bsky.social Our cup runneth over. Do follow him.

Summer marigolds and cosmos still going strong. December in a couple of weeks 😳

Phew! Well, now that I've decided to move here properly from Ex, I guess I'd better introduce myself. I've been an environmental journalist since 1985, and a campaigner for most of that time. Here's some blah about my strange and not-always-happy life: www.monbiot.com/about/%F0%9F...
