Guy is trying to gut through a calf injury, knowing that’s possible, to play in a Game 7 and it happens. Respect for being out there

Definitely one I wrestled with for a minute. Very comparable. Backus was an Ironman. Bumped into him at our son’s baseball tournaments last month.

Yeah, I remember that draft thinking Halliburton would be gone before the Pistons picked. Then he was there and it was like wtf, why not take him? But you’re right, Pistons probably aren’t in position to take Cade if they hit that draft

With two kids, my experience is they’re totally different. One would practice 25 hours a day if possible. The other has more varied interests. Got to let them be them. And I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who don’t

That’s fair. I haven’t seen that. My son is 10. No private lessons in anything here but definitely know a lot of people that do in a variety of sports. That part of the story I get. People are willing to spend whatever on their kids anyway, so more affluent kids have an edge early on

But you’re right that a lot of money/time goes into baseball, probably cause it’s summers so out of state tournaments turn into vacations. If the team is close though, not much different than vacationing with friends. And fwiw, I see it in basketball, too

We have 10 kids on our baseball team (10u), 9 on our basketball team. At least 18 maybe 19 play at least one other sport (my son plays baseball, basketball, football). I see a lot of kids that love a sport, and whatever the sport it is, I think it’s a lot parents trying to feed their kid’s passions.

Also that whole spending $1,000 on a sport lol. Love to know what economy that’s in. It’s wayyy more than that, especially when you mix in the cost of travel to tournaments

We have a very competitive baseball team at my son’s age, not the best in the state but in that top group to where we win our share vs. those teams. Guessing there’s a few that think scholarships are a coming but no one is over the top about it and pretty sure everyone gets puberty changes things

I’d buy that, especially early on. But things crystalize eventually. And there’s an inflated view of scholarship at what level, too. Going high major D1 and playing D2 are totally different things

I don’t buy 1 in 9. Patents can be crazy and most have an inflated view of their kid’s abilities. But in all the sports I’ve coached and seen my kids play from youth to high school, I don’t think I’ve ever been on a team/had a kid where a parent has vocalized that or acted like that was the case
