An Italian court yesterday sentenced executives at a chemical plant to jail terms of up to 17 years for polluting water used by hundreds of thousands of people with PFAS, or "forever chemicals". Corporate executives killing our environment need to held to account. www.france24.com/en/live-news...

Lovely grey skies at Media City, Salford. Very Joy Division.

"We all know the Beat poets never would have become a byword for bohemianism if they’d had a compulsion to tidy a kitchen or treasured the idea of parenthood" davehaslam.substack.com/p/retracing-...

Sad news. Adeo's family; "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beautiful Adeo. The enormity of support and love shown by the public, friends and strangers sharing Adeo's appeal is a testament to the passionate way he lived his life" www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater...

God it’s not hard is it, Beeb

Opening words of 'The Bell Jar' by Sylvia Plath; “It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they executed the Rosenbergs, and I didn't know what I was doing in New York." Convicted of spying on behalf of the Soviet Union, Julius & Ethel Rosenberg were executed #otd June 19th, 1953.

I’ve long had concerns about the NTIA for a number of reasons, but this is off the scale shady. Michael Kill comes across as a classic 21st century grifter. Nightlife needs representation, but not from characters like this

New article on my Substack, please give it a read. Here davehaslam.substack.com/p/ghost-asse...

Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes married on June 16th 1956. Plath wore a pink wool knitted dress, and Hughes wore a corduroy jacket. Their honeymoon was in Benidorm (via Paris). Hughes later (1981) explained their honeymoon choice; Benidorm ‘was at that time still undeveloped as a tourist resort’.

June 16th is #Bloomsday, a celebration of James Joyce’s novel Ulysses. The novel is set on June 16, 1904. In 1955 Eve Arnold photographed Marilyn Monroe reading the book. She said she kept Ulysses in her car and would read it aloud to herself to try to make sense of it.

June 15th 1979 #UnknownPleasures released. Applause please for the album's producer; Martin Hannett. Found sounds (the metallic clang of an old lift door closing, glass smashing), innovate, embrace space, less is more... Photo by Daniel Meadows #JoyDivision

NEW: The authoritarian crackdown begins in LA. This is dystopian. As the dictator’s parade is broadcast in the top right corner, MSNBC’s reporter and peaceful protestors are charged by police as tear gas is fired. Watch till the end.

I, like many of you, am not only devastated but furious at the assassination of two Minnesota lawmakers this morning. This isn’t some isolated tragedy. It’s extremism, it’s fascist violence, and we have to treat it that way. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

The Carl Davis music at the beginning of The World at War has so much power, at the time and still. What an incredible series.

That our government has not only failed to act to prevent this, but knowingly enabled it, is an absolute stain of shame that will last generations.

For most Jews, Israel was not about settler colonialism. It was supposed to be a safe homeland for a traumatised generation post-Holocaust. It was, in the Jewish consciousness, a homecoming to a land we’d been expelled from. What it’s become fills me with grief, rage & shame I can’t even articulate.
