I know the owner is a billionaire and billionaires are bad, but name a time in history when an unknown artist could get that much reach from a song without any marketing budget, radio or tv.
Perhaps I've not framed this as well as i had, but in my opinion Spotify is good for artists.

This was all done with zero marketing, a few social media posts from me and that's it. I was on holiday when I released the song.

Why do so many artists moan about this? Why is this not part of the story that we put out.
Sure the payment per stream is lower than we'd like it to be, but over 80% of those streams were from people who had no idea who i was until Spotify told them the song was there.

When you look at the breakdown of those streams and those listeners. 84% of them come from Spotify's algorithmic playlists or radios or autoplay.
At the end of April i got a message from Spotify saying I had 2753 listeners in April of which 2472 were new listeners.

And then something magic happened, on the Friday the Spotify algorithm got to work, and put the song everywhere it wanted to.
The first day had 880 listeners and then for about 8 days i had 400+ listeners a day.
Now 3 weeks on, I'm averaging just over 100 again. My monthly listeners is now 3800.

Small numbers but I'm really proud of what I've achieved over the years.
I decided to release the song on a Monday (as it was my birthday) which is not the usual industry standard, which is Friday.
The first few days of the release I was getting 160+ listeners a day. Happy days!

It’s on all the other streaming site too, in case you’re not a Spotify person.

“Yet perverting that good news story into some tawdry political gain cheapens SpaceX, NASA, and Wilmore and Williams. In this case, the truth was beautiful. When one American space company had a problem, another stepped in, and the heroic astronauts made it home safely with a perfect backdrop.” 👍👍👍

and then tomorrow I’m back at Abbey Road to do Atmos mixes of my album. And it was those guys singing Blackbird that night which really put me on the trajectory to be there. Funny how things work out

No. Technically that’s already been published with another podcast I did a few years ago.

I feel like this idea is the start of a good joke or something but I’ve had 3 hours sleep a night for the last week and my brain isn’t quite functioning at top level…. well enough to come with Oolong Musk though.
