The energy provisions in the Republicans' One Big Horrible Bill are truly so bad! Who wants this? The country's automakers don't want it. Electric utilities don't want it. Data center developers don't want it. Manufacturers in energy intensive industries don't want it. 🔌💡

Tax breaks for just five corporations equal nearly the entire budget of USAID, which has just been gutted to "pay for" tax breaks for Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, and Tesla. Trading dead kids for billions for the richest humans ever to live is pure, uncut GOP. itep.org/alphabet-ama...

republicans operate according to a moral economy where wealthy oligarchs and polluters deserve the collected prosperity of the nation because of their wealth. the job of the rest of us is to toil for their benefit.

As Mark Jacob (@markjacob.bsky.social) says: ‬ "The New York Times keeps writing stories about a fascist authoritarian trying to establish a dictatorship, but it carefully avoids using the words 'fascist,' 'authoritarian' and 'dictatorship.'" www.nytimes.com/2025/06/28/u...

So many Dem leaders (and voters) would rather crater into autocracy than operate with the beliefs: 1. Your enemies are bad 2. They do objectively bad things on purpose 3. Either they win or you stop them

Random wars, presidential corruption on an unprecedented scale, massive tax cuts for the rich being jammed through while Medicaid is cut, people being kidnapped & deported to torture prisons ... and what freaks out the chattering class? Grocery stores & higher wages for the working class.

This is excellent and exactly matches what we've seen in reporting w construction teams, farm managers, food service, bldg maintenance. Let's not even talk about packing houses Everyone knows this, except Miller, Noem, Homan, Trump, Congressional GOP. (Actually, they know.) 100% worth watching

Make no mistake, the SCOTUS decision about birthright citizenship IS ALSO ABOUT *birthright citizenship.* The Court is using nationwide injunctions as the tail, wagging the dog, to take us back to an Antebellum view of citizenship. That way led to war once. My latest in @thenation.com

"Here is the manifest failure of a political media and partisan opposition that have become desensitized to Trump’s Orwellian deceptions. It has allowed Trump to neutralize his unrivaled dishonesty and corruption, as if they were ordinary gutter politics."

The Roberts Court doesn’t have any consistent philosophy of Constitutional interpretation. What they have is one set of Constitutional rules for Americans who are Democrats, and a different set of Constitutional rules for Americans who are Republicans.

New in PN: The MAGA mind virus "77 million Americans surrendered moments of shared humanity when they put Trump back in the White House. The tragedies that once united Americans now only further divide us. No one, including his supporters, should have expected anything else."

Worth reading:

The United States tried presidents who were smart, decent, and capable of empathy, but decided it wasn’t for them. It just didn’t reflect them.

The provisions on student loans in Trump’s budget bill would dramatically limit access to student loans and loan forgiveness, resulting in the smaller and less accessible version of higher Ed that people like Chris Rufo have been calling for newrepublic.com/article/1970...

Do all the Tough Guys feel safe yet?

Most of the ideas mentioned in this article—higher minimum wage, free tuition at public colleges, higher taxes on the rich—are not only popular now but were realities in the past, including in NYC, during the booming postwar years, when America was “great.”/1 www.nytimes.com/2025/06/25/u...

Even with all of the important caveats, Mamdani’s win was a blow against the old Democratic way of doing things — and against the old Democrats who run the party. Gift link: wapo.st/44zuWyC

ICE needs to be reigned in:

This thread is worth reading:

Taxes should not be cut.

This is so so so so corrupt. Why any institution is willing to negotiate is beyond me — why anyone thinks they can make a real deal is baffling. It’s corruption all the way down.

University presidents need to hold the line.

The news media have normalized a president brazenly lying every day. Decent people are appalled, and that should include journalists, but instead the media have accepted lying as part of the game.

Here’s the thing, the right has been exceptionally good in recent years at courting a populist base, mostly through bullshit and hate. When the left tries to make inroads through policies that might actually make people’s lives better, that’s a threat to their new base and, essentially, their power.

I spent most of today seeking to meet with one of the many victims of ICE raids currently jailed in Downtown LA. While @chrclla.bsky.social focuses its efforts on impact litigation, my team boosts efforts on the ground whenever possible. What I saw speaks to the crisis in LA & beyond.

Thread. Because not enough people understand this. Medicaid is a lifeline for pregnant women, children, poor, disabled, veterans and the elderly. If its decimation doesn't impact you now, it will when your senior parents need it. Or your kid serves our country and comes home less than 100%...

"This isn’t just about Ukraine. It’s about whether borders mean anything, whether alliances matter, and whether the free world will defend democracy, or let it be erased."

Truly horrified by this order in way that is deeper and darker than I have felt over many truly awful merits decisions.

“In his efforts to demolish and disappear Black culture and the institutions that support it, Trump has made a loud admission: if he truly believed that Black culture were inferior, he would be leaving it on display and intact. Its mere existence would prove white supremacy.”

There are way too many things to be upset about these days, but I believe the destruction of public lands should be near the top of the list: www.washingtonpost.com/climate-envi...

“Today’s ruling is a massively important one—and a massively worrying one, insofar as it at least appears to reflect the willingness of a majority of the justices to appease a government the behavior of which is increasingly unworthy of any such respect.” www.stevevladeck.com/p/161-the-co...

A federal officer cannot be “doxxed.” The public has a right to know who is operating in our government, especially if they have the power to imprison someone.

Mike Lofgren was one of first to diagnose structural collapse of GOP. (Book 'The Party's Over,' 2012. Same time as Ornstein/ Mann 'Let's Just Say It: Republicans are the Problem') Now he argues it's time to use 'totalitarian,' rather than 'authoritarian,' for MAGA era www.salon.com/2025/06/22/a...

The media needs to focus on the truth.
