Fans like history and continuity. Confected competitions like this offer neither. www.theguardian.com/football/202... (See also : European Super League)

🔴Resignations, Cancelled Meetings and Culture Wars: How Reform UK Councils Are Descending Into Chaos Nigel Farage’s band of newly-elected councillors are already starting to struggle, reports @josiah.writes.news bylinetimes.com/2025/06/16/r...

Agree totally. Too often gongs are used to silence potential critics and reward sycophants. There is no place for either in public service.

So many problems with Council Tax., above all that it is wholly inadequate to its supposed purpose.

Reform lose another Councillor, this one from Kent: Apparently it’s “a police matter”. Which begs a lot of questions about candidate vetting and selection, among other things.

Study on London 20 mph limits shows: - collisions ⬇️ 35% - casualties ⬇️ 36% - fatal/serious injuries ⬇️ 34% - child casualties ⬇️ 46% - child deaths ⬇️ 75% - walkers, cyclists, motorcyclists killed/seriously injured ⬇️ 28% etsc.eu/20mph-limits...

It’s going so well … www.kentonline.co.uk/kent/news/re...

Not Russia, though. 🤷‍♂️ www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Outrageous letter from Reform to KCC staff, purporting to appoint a “DOGE unit” to KCC with no due process and zero legal authority. Hope KCC staff will flatly refuse to comply.

Reform UK Kent County Council. Working for you one day, not day one.

With votes spread across at least five parties, First Past the Post elections become little more than a lottery. Don't trust the mystery box. Demand a proportional system where seats match votes.

Next up: if you want to use the steps or airbrishe to actually get to the seat you paid for, then … ££££ www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Possibly the last time at my favourite venue #Roundhouse

Here’s me chatting with Charlie Higson about Margaret of Anjou on his latest podcast: open.spotify.com/episode/0xq2...

Having played my last game at 44 (25 years ago ) I can really relate to this www.theguardian.com/football/202...

Just one university - UCL - employs almost twice as many people as there are working in fishing boats.

🔴The Founding Myth of Morgan McSweeney Why reports of Keir Starmer's chief adviser's supposed campaigning genius do not appear to match up with the facts www.adambienkov.co.uk/p/the-foundi...

In short, Starmer has taken a massive hit among Labour voters, for no gain elsewhere, while boosting Farage's popularity, including doubling his ceiling among Labour voters. I.e., the political scientists were right, Morgan McSweeney was horrendously wrong.

This conflates “nation” with “civil society”, which is not at all the same thing. Also, as a society we don’t have rules, we have norms. Those evolve over time in response to change. The idea that Britishness and British behaviour are static concepts is ludicrous.
