From the replies to this post, I'm even more pessimistic about the future of BlueSky and the future of the U.S. Yelling and insulting (even though I'm plenty mad at them) the people you disagree with will never cause change. Do you want things to change or do you want to always be right?

Amazing how your respect for someone (Hank Green) can be wiped out in a moment. Didn't think that was the kind of person you were.

I am no fan of the Democrats or of Kamala Harris. They have been the "don't shake things up" party. We would have had more of the same. Right now, though, that is looking pretty good.

I'm not into conspiracy theories, but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck.... IT'S A DUCK!

I certainly don't want to be right, but I am fearful that I am.

Symbolic gestures solve none of the catastrophic problems we face. If the democrats don't learn that lesson, they are almost certainly doomed.

If TdA were as bad as they “determine,” wouldn’t there be widespread reports of “murders and kidnappings” from around the country? And wouldn’t the Govt’s case be stronger if they told the court about them? Finally, can courts take that lack of specific claims into account?

A European study about gender bias by teachers. Contrary to my naive assumption that this was an American phenomenon. cepr.org/voxeu/column...

Why spread the anti-male agenda? Two separate female teachers, on two separate occasions, told me that middle school girls were the meanest students they encountered. That is just anecdotal; I recognize it as such. Does this make a positive difference? If it's meant as a joke, it's not funny.

Thank you for a polite and informative response.

I saw a summary of this paper. I didn't read down far enough. Those that attribute that to malice... I'd always assumed there was no substantive difference on the subject. I've been wrong a couple of times recently. I try to admit it when it happens. www.repository.law.indiana.edu/cgi/viewcont...

I'm just asking a question, admitting limited understanding. So if you say I'm wrong, that sounds like bias. The US supposedly has free speech, except for specific exceptions. However, that is definitely not the case and has been under attack by both left and right for some time.

Yes. I believe there was a time when we had noble goals. Things are never that simple. Everybody makes mistakes. (Trump's actions aren't mistakes). The Treaty of Versailles angered the Germans. Did it lead directly to the war? I'm sure scholars argue. But, they're mistakes of our ancestors.

I take that as meaning some people are not entitled to their opinions. You're the one insulting me. I'm just asking questions.

I see. You're allowed your opinion, but I am not. Is there a bit of SJW in you? Just asking politely. So, I would like an answer. I am not allowed an opinion. Right?

I checked his profile and it said Londoner. No other info. My response was unjustified. My opinion was not. Did his response help those of us caught in this nightmare?

No one reads the posts when I said that Canada and Europe are/were our most important allies. Yes, I was wrong. No apology is possible now. I stand by my belie,f but the vehemence with which I expressed it was over the top.

We must also acknowledge the US military budget is Ridiculous. We have more aircraft carriers than the rest of the world COMBINED. Europe sitting back and letting us achieve that dominance seems more than unwise. With Russia on their doorstep, becoming reliant on them gas and oil seems foolish.

In this case, I admit to being a part of the problem and not a part of the solution. That is not "the me I want to be." You are right, I was wrong.
comment in response to post
I was wrong in the vehemence of my reply. I acknowledge that. However, many presented their opinions as facts. No one called them out. You fail to comment on Europe's level of support for Ukraine. Europe has more to lose and they are just now planning an appropriate response.

You are right. I let my emotions get the best of me. I stand by my opinion, but the vehemence with which I expressed it was not representative of the person I want to be.

In this case, I mean anyone representing the government. That they (DHS/ICE) have started covering their faces is a dire warning to all of us. Don't know if this is policy or if they're ashamed of what they're doing. Jan 6 rioters were more dangerous than common criminals.

/1 I recognize that it is not an area I am knowledgeable. It is difficult to find trustworthy sources. I have found it to be more accurate than most. This excerpt from "Censorship in the United Kingdom" "While there is no general right to free speech in the UK,[1]..." Link unfollowing reply.

There are so many problems it is hard to tell which is the worst. I am from and have moved back to the rural Midwest. I have always considered them the backbone of America. Clearly I was wrong.

I did not belittle the UK or Europe. They seem to be Ukraine'only hope now. I recognize the many things that are better there. My only criticism was of your comment. Repeat, my only criticism was of your comment. I am far angrier at the US betrayal of our allies than I at you or your comment.
