"I missed so many teleons..." And apparently, so many "C"s. ;-)

No, they very much care how many people they kill. But they think it's like football, where more is winning; not like golf, where lower is better. Odd, considering that their god plays golf several days a week.

The basic premise of modern GOP is to shrink government by taking away ANYTHING that actually helps anyone, so that those funds can be funneled into programs to oppress anyone not fitting the cis-male WASP model. Government is not here to help, it's to make the powerful feel more powerful.

Don't know anything about the book, but gotta agree about the cover. Straight CIS white guy, but frankly, wouldn't throw either out of bed!

I've said for months; all the gun fetishists have told me they need their guns to stand up to oppressive government. WTF are they waiting for!!!!
comment in response to post
Heck, you could change "days" to "Hours", and still not need a second page (assuming that you don't count when he's busy eating KFC with a fork)
comment in response to post
Wow, a calendar that needs only one page!

You state this as if Trump gives a flying f*ck about what the Constitution states. He's ignored every other part of it; why should he pay attention to this part? Every good Republican knows the only part that matters is 2nd Amendment (and 10th, but only if states do what they want)
comment in response to post
Of COURSE they should be "assessed". Goes like this: "Do you feel the need to transition?" "Yes" "Okay then; when would you like to start the process?" Nothing more is needed.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is "too dumb" for Trump. This is the guy who couldn't make money running casinos, where people came to him to say "Here, please take my money"

A "trade deficit" is a good thing. It shows that you are the wealthy one, that can buy things. When you are selling off your belongings, it's a trade surplus, but not a good sign of prosperity.

There are some really expensive vodkas that are extremely clean and pure tasting. But IMO, what's the point of that? I'm not spending $50 on a bottle to not taste it! I'll stick with whisky and rum; I want FLAVOR.
comment in response to post
How can you not think that the #1 priority on a politician's platform is okay to just ignore? It's EXACTLY what you voted for, and you were told that fact over and over before you voted! I don't think Trump has done anything that's not what he promised, or has done in the past.

Yep, as a young teen (mid-70s) got "The talk" from my Mom. "I have nothing about black people but I don't want you to marry one. Think about the children and how they'll be treated". IOW, we're not racist, but we have to act that way because others are. Yuck.

But also, asking a person dead for 26 years might be just as productive in getting an answer. 😁

LOL! Yep, "RFK Jr." I'd love to blame it on the half a bottle of wine and two glasses of rum consumed tonight; but frankly, not sure it matters.

That's because it's hard to hang around with the people who were killed when a "concerned citizen" thought that they were the problem (or equally likely, the cops shot the guy with the gun, who wasn't the real problem). Yes, it can work both ways. But how many "mass knife attacks" have you heard of?

Ask JFK Jr!

Yep, 2-3 grinds of pepper, a bit of garlic powder, and a healthy dose of MSG. Toppings left to choice (but please, don't cook it "well-done"!)

I'll add, worked in photo lab in Phoenix in 90s; say tons of shots from Antelope. This is top stuff.

Very nice. Never made it to Lower AC, as it was still closed after the tragedy. I got some great shots in Upper, but this beats them all! Thanks for sharing.

And failing miserably!

Love it! One day, and she's already learned how to get on the table! Love black kitties.

Ah yes, "whataboutism" that is so common among GOP. It's clear that you didn't even understand the point of the post. Plenty on left are upset about Hunter; but equally or more upset about Musk posting their private info while tripping on shrooms. Frankly, with either, not drugs that are problem

As a longtime astro buff and former pro photographer, I likewise find the amazing "night sight" vision of my cell phone quite frustrating at times. I want to capture what I'm seeing! (although, it's great when taking cat photos).

Seriously, if I had the time, that's something I'd like to try. Brewed my own beer in college; most was dreadful, but some was incredible (pronounced so by exchange student from UK who was president of his chapter of CAMRA). But now, I usually just have a glass while playing poker. nothing special

As a professional in the business (and an actual judge for publication), I found that Smirnoff did very well against far more expensive vodkas. In tastings, I could tell the diff between it and $50 bottles, but too subtle to worry about for actual drinking. And it beat many of those!

I'm just pissed because I had picked 6/6 in the pool for when the bromance failed. Lost by one freakin' day!
comment in response to post
Although I'll admit that, now that I'm retired, drinking more rum than whisky. Prices have gotten INSANE!

Nothing wrong with that! I've had the pleasure of being the whisk(e)y buyer for the biggest liquor store in NYC; got to try some incredible stuff! Colin Scot even came to visit. Sadly, the owner could never work out the details for me to visit Scotland on Diageo's dime....

But hey, it's means that the super-rich can still follow the stock market while their yachts are parked outside US waters so they don't have to pay taxes! It's all good! /s 🤮

I've found that racists who hate everyone non-European will suddenly embrace MENA when it comes to Jebus. "It's close enough; he was WHITE!"

I've seen news clips from several smaller farmers (big compared to a home garden, but a family farm) saying that they can't get any help, and they won't be able to pick all their crops. At least 2 specifically mentioned likely going bankrupt if there is no bail-out.
comment in response to post
Well, yeah; there's that too.... ;-)

Why be skeptical? Do you think Democrats incapable of making biting sarcastic remarks? Of course, that doesn't mean that idiots will understand that it's sarcasm, but that's a different story.

The thing is, other than releasing water from a dam in California, I can't name a single thing Trump has done that isn't either something he promised to do, or something he made clear he would do during his first term. He's been pretty consistent about destroying the US.

Yep, dandelion wine can be pretty good. Sorta like a mild Sauv Blanc (California "grassy" style, not New Zealand "cat pee" style). Just really hard to find (and it takes too many to make a decent amount for me to try to make my own)

On the bright side, they're restoring the names of military bases named after people who waged war against the United States. 🤮

I don't get it; the Fed cutting rates is a sign that the economy is weak and needs a boost. But Trump claims the economy is doing GREAT. So which is it? (I know the answer; he wants cheap loans to buy all the farms that go bankrupt because of his policies...)

Um, I've suffering from Long COVID. Were I not retired, I would have to quit work on disability, as few jobs will support "I'm suddenly tired; I need to lay down for a couple of hours". Yeah, I would be one of the 35%.
comment in response to post
Not totally ignorant. She knows how to read the messages from Trump about what tariffs he's about to change, to know when to buy or sell stocks! She's made more on insider trading this year than I could make in 10 lifetimes doing honest work.
comment in response to post
Because Pelosi took the fairly small amount of time (given that it was talked about for 9 months) to read it, which would take only a couple of days at most. But GOP refused to even look at it, since it would help people who weren't filthy fucking rich, and they don't matter.
comment in response to post
That statement was made after the GOP complained that 9 months was not enough time to read a document that I personally was able to read 10% of in about 2 hours. It's not that they couldn't read it, it's that they didn't care what it said, they were against it.

Forecasts a few days ago were for East Coast to only have very high level smoke, so no smell or health issues. Hope that stays the case.
comment in response to post
Here in NJ, sky was noticably orange late in the day. And of course, the US Smoke website is down, because reasons.....

LOL! 40+ years ago, I stayed up til dawn, writing a sort algo for a database I designed. After a good night's sleep, I couldn't understand it completely. Never did. But worked great! (slow, but did the job).

Because every project starts with "What can I do" rather than "What needs to be done". At least, that's the way it was when I was in IT 35 years ago, before it was called "IT"

I'm already making plans for Central Park in July! Get to see TKN and Toni in person is a real thrill. Although I still wish there were more big tournies.....
