Also my most randomly controversial opinion is that "Digital and Technologies" should stop being viewed as a sector but as an infrastructural component of all the other sectors. Pureplay "tech" as a sector is, to slightly misquote Margaret Mitchell in the FT, mostly "snake oil and vibes" anyway

What else do they have? They won’t reconsider their economics, though it brought us to our multiple crises: of state capacity, under-investment, short-termism, inequality, failing services. They distrust the CofE and the BBC, betrayed farming. They burned down their old house and built chaos.

….and you really can’t deliver regeneration in places (like Stoke) with low property values without substantial and ongoing public subsidy. Local government also needs to be able to support cheap and comprehensive public transport as well as other basic services.
