No country has ever been destroyed by migrants just wanting a better life for their family. Many though have been destroyed by authoritarianism and fascism.

Yes.

Yes.

A wonderful book that I recall every semester.

A good rule is that if you are going to criticize a book, and especially the author of the book - you should have at least read the book before doing the criticizing!

Fragments of an Anarchist Anthropology was published in 2004, yet still today is popular in Anthropology sections in bookshops and libraries. With Right-Wing myths always spread about the state, about hierarchy and about what is possible, the book is a good read to get another point of view.

Humans just have to create––it's in our genes!

A spontaneous Visual Assembly by local artists and activists took place in NYC It didn’t last long. Security interrupted, and the drawings were washed away. But the moment showed how little it takes to begin: just a bit of space, a few people & some chalk davidgraeber.institute/how-to-do-yo...

At some point, our society will need to stop ignoring this injustice.

Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan promised we'd be all better off. But we just ended up poorer with a system that resembles Feudalism.

“Both nationally and internationally we’re ruled by a ruling class whose profits are based primarily on complex forms of rent extraction, backed by coercive force.” -David Graeber

“…We teach children pro-social behaviors… But then, when they grow up…they are often rewarded for many anti-social behaviors.”

I think about this every day. We are ruled by people who if they were children, we’d be so appalled by their behaviour we would discipline them and send them to their room.

😍😍😍

Around that time in 2020, when Keir Starmer was set to revert Labour to being fully Neo-Liberal, David Graeber wrote - The Center Blows Itself Up. It is a long read though: davidgraeber.org/articles/the...

Alessandro Diroma, a graduate student from the University of Turin did an in-depth interview with @nikadubrovsky.bsky.social about David Graeber. For those interested to know more beyond-the-scenes info on David, you can read the interview here davidgraeber.institute/__trashed/

Finished reading The Utopia of Rules by David Graeber. It's another great book that made me think about things I usually accept without asking why. Also, the origin of bureaucracy, fantasy books, board games, why we still don't have flying cars, and his thoughts on The Dark Knight Rises. 👌🏻

This weekend at the Festival dei Matti, in Venice, we held a series of Visual Assemblies - where we explored key questions such as: What could spaces of care look like? And what would spaces of anti-care look like? This was done with discussions, lectures, and art projects. Here are some photos.

Yesterday's Visual Assembly was working on utopias and dystopias of the Care Unites. As one participant put it: “When you enter a hospital, you become part of a factory system that processes you through it.”

"anarchism is acting as if you are already free" David Graeber.

I've seen videos where Graeber uses this example and concludes with, "anarchism is acting as if you are already free" which I think is a really powerful statement.

On direct action.

Here are photos from our first Visual Assembly in Venice, Italy. The kids came up with various ideas for Venice, including artist-designed bins (Venice often lacks them) & mobile platforms that can be used in different areas of the city for small concerts, poetry readings & other cultural events.

Visual Assembly in a former hospice for the incurable, now transformed into an academy of arts. The kids came up with so many incredible ideas!
