Going to check this out today. Listed to Pierce’s Give and Take yesterday.

Some of us have been praising him for decades. Back on X, it seemed he was still just a onetime sideman for Billie Holiday and John Coltrane. He was a leader in his own right and there is plenty of documentation to prove that.

So glad I got to hear him perform. Can still remember the Brother, Can You Spare A Dime and River Man….

Was just listening to the It’s So Peaceful In The Country on that album. Wess always had some great lesser known standards on his albums.

Will check this out. I’ve been listening to his Duke and Alec Wilder tributes.

Of course the right breading and seasoning is key. In many parts of the United States seasoning is just salt and pepper…. And maybe some more salt…..

Fried okra is delicious. It’s often served as a side dish with fried catfish and Max and cheese. Maybe a seafood stuffed bell pepper too…..

We have gas stations in Louisiana that have better food than quite number of other states I’ve visited and I was in the Navy for ten years so I’ve been around.

They have great fried shrimp poboys too but I’ll save that for tomorrow.

I’m just going to roll out to a gas station and get some fire gumbo without okra for lunch.
comment in response to post
I’ve just cooked them as I’ve learned from chefs in Lafayette and here in New Orleans.

I never use either and most of the cooks I learned from only use okra in seafood gumbo…. Make a thick roux with the proper amount of stock and you don’t need a thickening agent .

I’ll do either butter or sugar or both but I need some Patton’s hot and sharp cheddar to go with it.

Love this. His playing has always moved me. Going to listen to Port of Harlem Jazzmen today

Love your way of phrasing it. I’ve been using The practice of stopping the war within in lieu of the pickling. Jack Kornfield learned it from his teacher Ajahn Chah. As we used to say, YMMV.

Love all of Lake’s originals but that Dolphy tribute is fire and is slept on…..
