It sounds what you’ve experienced is rooted heavily in transphobia which is a very real and widespread bigotry backed as policy by the current US government, and you have all my sympathies for that. But antisemitism, to the extent it exists in the U.S., isn’t analogous at all

In any case, the state of the discourse around this is such that my default assumption when people say they experienced antisemitism is skepticism, because what they’re describing is usually more like “I got into a nasty argument about Israel with someone and they seemed to hate me”

You’d think someone would be discriminating against me, or shouting slurs at me on the street, or threatening me as a Jew, or giving me a dirty look. But in my 41 years as an American Jew I basically don’t have stories like that. Maybe I’m just really lucky, or maybe this is hype and panic.

I keep waiting to encounter some actual antisemitism in my own very Jewish American life and it never seems to happen. Yes I see Free Palestine stuff, yes there’s occasional offensive graffiti, yes I see it on social media, and of course I saw Elon sieg heil. But none of that makes me feel unsafe.

This piece basically blood libels the Brooklyn left while the author pats himself on the back for having the “courage” to separate himself from it. It’s a form of reinvention I’ve become very familiar with in my book research.
