Things have been tough. Lately especially. Hang in there, hoping there’s still good to come.

Cool story! These plants can go dormant for quite some time. This cactus is a Gymnocalycium baldianum if you didn’t already know.

We need rules that protect people when goodness fails to show up.

What’s happening to law enforcement in this country breaks my heart. They’re being turned into tools of power instead of protectors of the people. I respect the role they’re meant to play—but this isn’t it.

If it was a child shut in a car on a hot day, would he be making the same argument??

Hardly anyone wants to be a police officer these days, it’s an incredibly tough job. Unfortunately, that means a lot of people who shouldn’t be in the role end up in it.

I had the same exact thought. Special treatment as usual.

They’re all over the U.S. now, most started as escaped or released pets that formed breeding populations. We’ve got big flocks here in San Francisco. I was surprised to learn that Monk parakeets have also established themselves in colder places like New York, Chicago, and Connecticut.

Interesting how Fox News has spent way more air time talking about a burned Waymo than the political assassinations we just saw.

If you can believe I’ve never been to Yosemite! I’ve been all over California including Joshua Tree, Mount Shasta, Mount Lassen, all over the North Coast all the way up to Crescent City, but never Yosemite. I hope to visit sometime.

No way Jesus would be a Republican. Like clear as day. Too many people are gullible and fall for misinformation.

Here’s another king.
Wish I had the space and conditions to grow one of these beauties myself.

Posted a video on this thread answering some of your questions. Might need more light or higher humidity. 15 years is a long time! Hope you’re able to see more flowers from it.

Here’s mine! It’s gotten a little lopsided over the years. I should fix that this summer when it empties.

I’ve had the same thing happen the last couple years! I left mine alone in a field near my house and was surprised they actually produced pumpkins. I didn’t water them at all, and we don’t get summer rain here—so I’m guessing the water table must be high where they grew.

Hate that 😒 I used to have the same thing happen when I lived closer to the city.

Same goes for the don’t tread on me folks. They seem awfully quiet 🤔

Funny how the ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ crowd is awfully quiet while a would-be dictator stomps all over basic rights. Wonder how that flag’s holding up.

Mines an itty bitty baby still. Can’t wait for it to bloom!

Yup, that’s right! There are three flowers open here. Hummingbirds are the typical pollinators. Their long beaks are perfect for the tubular flowers. The red blush is also a visual cue to attract them.

Nice, good luck with them. I like botanical interests too and have had numerous seed packets from them 🌱
