Before the fun begins tonight, let's not forget Germany's entry in 1979. The greatest #Eurovision song & performance. Came 4th. Robbed. youtu.be/ejQ0N2SMZNA?...

Very pleased to get BBC Proms tkts today for St Vincent. www.bbc.co.uk/events/e5dhj5

59 yrs on this planet and I had never seen Jacques Tati's Playtime. What an extraordinary, dazzling film. An absolute masterpiece. Needs re-watching to take it all in. Thank you to @talkingpicturestv.bsky.social for screening, along with other Tati greats. youtu.be/zrYB8hgyq4s?...

HAPPY COWSLIP SUNDAY! Lambley's very own May time celebrations. I brought it back to the village a few years back and seeing this write-up again really makes me want to revive the revival. traditionalcustomsandceremonies.wordpress.com/2012/05/31/c...

In audience for @BBCRadio4 Any Questions? at Epperstone Village Hall, live at 8pm. Could be interesting following the horror-show of today's election results.

Marketing email from Trainline. When the hell did 'inspo' become a word?

Fresh from Prague, have finished re-reading Metamorphosis. Still a brilliant, horrific & moving tale, plus I guess a strange rebirth story for Easter. Odd that this new Vitalis edition, in partnership with the Kafka Institute, features the insect on the cover, which Kafka never wanted depicted.

Walked along the beach and sea front at #Portmeirion today. The same spot as Siouxsie on The Tube in 1987. youtu.be/s5Yglj3CErw?...

Another tick on the bucket list. This morning I woke up in 'The Village'. Staying in the glorious Portmeirion in Wales. View from window overlooks The Prisoner shop, which was also No. 6's home in the series. This is TV nerdery heaven.

Today in Prague, it's been all about "gazing upward into the seeming emptiness". Done an awful lot of Kafka related fun today.

In an absinthe bar in Prague. I feel like Hemingway.

I admit that I'm such a #DavidLynch nerd that I wore my #TwinPeaks socks for the Wild at Heart intro I gave tonight at @broadwaycinema.bsky.social My dog not that impressed.

Visiting Prague next month. Just sorted tkts to visit Franz Kafka Museum. Booking process straightforward. Was expecting it to be more labyrinthine, bureaucratic and ultimately dehumanising. Think they've missed a trick there. kafkamuseum.cz/home/

It's official. Our dog Biscuit is now a magazine cover star.

Returned to Theatre Royal Nottingham tonight to see The Shark is Broken. Terrific piece, really entertaining. Then I came home and switched on the news ... youtu.be/5TcxiSM53q8?...

In #Lichfield for evening mtg with City of Sanctuary group. I grew up around here. Wandering around again, it's 1984, I've signed on, & I'll be driving home in my battered Morris Marina to listen to the just purchased 12" of Close to the Edit.

Utter joy! #NationalTheatreLive youtu.be/SkQNuoceik0?...

Not sure about the #DavidLynch expert tag, but having done the Eraserhead intro for @broadwaycinema.bsky.social last year for Nottingham Puppet Festival, delighted to be invited back to present Wild at Heart for Soundstage 2025 www.broadway.org.uk/whats-on/wil...

Afternoon trip to Sherwood Observatory. The darkness & warmth of the planetarium, coupled with a film dealing with my place within an infinite galaxy, meant I was asleep for most of the 60 minute run time. I would make a rubbish astronaut. sherwood-observatory.org.uk

Back from screening of Donmar's #Macbeth Seen a few of these theatre/cinema events, but for this one you really needed to be in the room. Some good moments, but I was constantly detached. Dreadful Porter scene. Don't remember any F-bombs in the First Folio. youtu.be/zmCvRCHNoxs?...

There's something unique about UK towns in winter. Just back from a bracing & fun overnight stay in #Scarborough Saw Ben Elton at Spa Theatre (still brilliant), rode the funicular and had fortune read by Zoltar. Apparently, August will be my lucky month.

Nice way to spend a Tuesday lunchtime, a Q&A and signing with Matt Berry at #RoughTrade #Nottingham Interesting to hear his memories of being a student here in the 90s.

Dug out The Rise & Rise of Michael Rimmer off DVD shelf. Made in 1970, it tanked on release, but it's remarkably prescient, inc. a flawed referendum & a perfect summary of US/UK relations. youtu.be/5KqnF5vWi7M?...

Really enjoyed listening to RHLSTP re-run of @herring1967.bsky.social interview with #TonySlattery. Some real laugh out loud moments. Such a loss. www.rhlstp.co.uk/website.cgi?...

Thank you David Lynch youtu.be/oiaWFi70HP4?...

Thank you @kermodeandmayo.bsky.social Went to see #Nosferatu Enjoyed it, but am now plagued by ... "Nosferatu, Feratu, Nos!"

Will hopefully make it to The Woodlark in Lambley tonight for the annual Notts mummers tradition of the Calverton Plough Play. Always good fun. Here's my blog post from last year, suggesting that this could actually be a way forward for theatre who-is-frank.squarespace.com/blog/in-come...

Lovely start to cinema-going in 2025 by seeing Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light at Bonington Theatre. An exquisite film. youtu.be/2mgQcpmYr_A?...

Next year I will be 60. Not that I've been thinking about it or anything.

Have enjoyed reading Box Office Poison by Tim Robey over Xmas. Interesting to re-visit notorious films such as #Freaks & #BaronMunchausen The final chapter on #Cats is hilarious.

Christmas morning.

Finished work at lunchtime. Can now officially play this ... youtu.be/URCNMEbgd_w?...

Fanny is now making what appears to be a mincemeat omelette. The 1970s was a strange time.

Watching Fanny Craddock's 1975 Christmas cooking shows currently on #BBCFour She's already attacked a turkey with garden secateurs & the Xmas pud reminds me of Henry's 'plant' in #Eraserhead

Watched #EyesWideShut for first time last night. Good timing, as never realised it was set during the festive season. Interesting article here about how #Kubrick has made the anti-Christmas movie. lwlies.com/articles/eye...

Finished setting up our annual Nativity scene.

Oh, those voices! A lovely Albert Hall #Nottingham winter show from The Unthanks last night. Highlights inc. Tar Barrel in Dale, drawn from the guising tradition and a beautiful song for New Year. Clip from 2015. youtu.be/QnHp-em1vec?...

Looking forward to seeing The Unthanks tonight at Nottingham's Albert Hall. Currently immersing myself in their long overdue seasonal album, which is everything I wanted it to be. open.spotify.com/album/3Iup1V...

All set up for Christmas talk at #Derby Museum. Screen gives you a flavour of what I'll be going on about.

Packed screening today @broadwaycinema.bsky.social for #Conclave Really recommend it.

Listening to Word In Your Ear podcast about Island Records. Mind quietly blown by the fact that #IanAnderson has 11 fingers on cover of Stand Up. One of my fave albums since my teens, so had to double-check. Will need rest of the day to process this. #jethrotull
