Examining the Bucks’ 2nd apron room

New: The wealthiest are set for big gains from the extension of the 2017 Trump-GOP tax laws. Last cycle, the top 100 donors in federal elections gave 3x as much to Republicans as to Democrats, according to a review of contribution data.

My FILM REVIEW of Sam & Jony, for Flaming Hydra Can you guess how many stars Small paywall, contribute to protect IRL journalism flaminghydra.com/movie-review...

Billionaire Republican megadonors, with the extension of the Trump-GOP tax cuts on the line, dotted the top 10 election spenders last cycle. Their net worth gain under the tax law, per @4taxfairness.bsky.social: - Citadel CEO Ken Griffin: $34B - Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman: $32B - others...

TODAY: @mariabustillos.com on a bit of OpenAI propaganda in movie form, which will first kill from boredom, then again from mortification, and finally from disgust. Fun! flaminghydra.com/r/c4d37692?m...

Billionaires have enjoyed the Trump-GOP tax laws, seeing their net worth soar by 125% since the end of 2017, according to @4taxfairness.bsky.social. The top 100 federal donors last cycle gave more than $1.7 billion to Republican candidates, with extending the tax cuts on the line. Our latest:

A dozen executive branch employees sold stocks before Trump's tariffs sent the market plunging. Democrats could have passed the Anti-Corruption Act, first intro'd in 2018, which would ban executive officials and others from owning stocks. But Dem leaders have never advanced the progressive bill.

When you swipe a credit card through Visa or Mastercard networks, 4% goes to transaction fees, eating into the profit margins of small business. Around half that fee gets kicked up to the banks issuing cards. Durbin and Marshall's anti-monopoly bill will try again soon, as part of the GENIUS Act:

Joe Manchin said that John Thune "is a most decent human being and a good friend of mine." Kyrsten Sinema considered Thune one of her best friends in the Senate chamber. Their guy Thune just overrode the parliamentarian and went nuclear, just to revoke federal waivers for California's EV rules.

The Electronic Payments Coalition, whose members include Visa, Mastercard, and big banks, donated $1 million to the Trump-Vance inaugural. Now the deep-pocketed lobbying group is mobilizing to block Durbin's bill to curb "swipe fees" as part of the GENIUS Act.

TONIGHT: Arwa Mahdawi with part six of her investigation into the disappearance of Susan Walsh. “As the ex-husband and the last person we can confirm saw Susan alive, Mark Walsh was obviously going to be a key suspect in his ex-wife’s disappearance.” flaminghydra.com/r/95ab96ba?m...

NEW: A long-stalled bill to lower credit card "swipe fees" was introduced by its sponsors as an amendment to the Senate's GENIUS Act, spurring a lobbying battle between banks and retailers over the market dominance of Visa and Mastercard.

🚨 In addition to banning gender affirming medical treatment through Medicaid, Trump's reconciliation bill PROHIBITS health insurance purchased through Obamacare exchanges from offering transition care. Detransition care, though, is specifically protected. CALL YOUR HOUSE REPS!

The 417,645 Maine voters who re-elected Susan Collins in 2020 helped her and John Thune overrule the Senate parliamentarian tonight and move to revoke California's EV waiver, adopted by the 40-million-person state that year.

Someone could ask Joe Manchin at Bondi Partners or Kyrsten Sinema at Hogan Lovells how they feel about John Thune and the GOP overriding the Senate parliamentarian tonight on California's EV waivers. I wonder how it feels to be exposed as historic frauds, pretending that Thune cared about the rule.

TODAY: @kolatubosun.bsky.social in conversation with writer and translator Ibrahim Fawzy. "Translation taught me that the world is not one fixed thing, but a chorus. It reconnected me to everything I hold dear in my lineage—as an African, an Arab, and a human being." flaminghydra.com/r/55dbcbc0?m...

Most Democrats overlook that the blue-bubble influencers here—the left’s existing Joe Rogans—are openly critical of the Democratic Party establishment (Piker, TYT, Seder, Noah, Mehdi, Charlemagne, etc). The audience craves honesty and anti-system populism, not DNC branding.

Americans favor labor unions over big business now more than ever, analysis of new data @epi.org from me & Adam Reich of Columbia Labor Lab. In data back 60 years, Americans' sentiments are both warmer toward unions & cooler towards big business than ever before. www.epi.org/blog/america...

This reported SALT deal and accelerated Medicaid cuts would make the bill even more effective at transferring resources from low-income to high-income households.

I know this isn't news but Senate Republicans who professed over and over and over how important preserving Senate rules and not overruling the parliamentarian is are completely full of shit. Thune, Collins, all of them.

The coverup of Biden's infirmity is indeed an unresolved political issue for the Democratic Party because the corporate wing is still in charge. Stan Greenberg has written publicly that Mike Donilon, Biden's close pollster, would not push him to retire, though Klain thought he should.

NEW: Two chemical agriculture industry lobbyists who President Trump chose to serve in his administration are working to block the MAHA Commission from targeting dangerous pesticides like atrazine. readsludge.com/2025/05/20/a...

TODAY: Yemisi Aribisala on the intense and sometimes violent relationships between hair, power, desire and sense of self. "I am not claiming a moral high ground. But I am not afraid to admit it is about power, defiance, identity, and adornment (with beads)." flaminghydra.com/violence-aga...

Do you know where your tax dollars are going? Through investments in Israel Bonds and Israel’s sovereign bonds at the county, state, & city different levels, taxpayers essentially loan money to Israel without knowledge & with no transparency in how Israel uses those funds. (1/2)

First Trump came for the Library of Congress, then GAO and the Office of Congressional Workplace Rights. Now the Trump administration plans to indict a member of Congress for her legally-protected visit to an immigration facility while doling out a $5m "settlement" for an insurrectionist's family.

Freshman Sen. Ruben Gallego was placed atop a new Digital Assets subcommittee as highest Dem ranking member, held a fundraising retreat with Marc Andreessen, and now helped Gillibrand et al get the GENIUS Act to cloture. Fairshake is loaded up with cash on hand to back more Republican candidates:

The debate over Biden’s age and enablers does indeed matter now - because Dems have policies now that disadvantage grassroots candidates, and there are very few ways to change them. One big question for next year is whether Dems will reject dark money in primaries, most going against progressives.

Pam Bondi and RFK Jr. sold stocks just before, or same day, Trump sent markets sinking with his tariff announcement on April 2. Bondi's sale is particularly funny because she offloaded millions worth of Trump Media shares.

NEW: HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and AG Pam Bondi sold substantial stock holdings just before and on the day of the president’s surprise April 2 tariff announcement that shook global markets and triggered a $2.4 trillion sell-off. readsludge.com/2025/05/19/t...
