Was at a reunion a few weeks back and one of the jokes was if we had iWatches and kept up with the activity like we do today - what would have the numbers have been. We also universally we were so lucky for no social media or iPhones.

Breaking Bad Season 2 explains this in regards to the FAA. In real life the cutting of staff, safety councils and probrationary increases the stress of your job outside of your regular life. And being an ATC has never been less than a very stressful job.

I got American history twice in high school because I moved. My first teacher was also my basketball and would say "are you dumb?" after really terrible answers. The second one had "By any means necessary" over the white board. I learned then - if you're going to fight - then that means you fight.

We need more ATCs and we need an subject matter experts that understand all aspects of aviation to review accidents and make recommendations to ensure they aren’t repeated.

One of the biggest reasons is it’s incredibly stressful. And I am sure that now knowing if you would be getting more hires or considering if you were part of the DOGE buyout made it harder. The last thing you want is a distracted ATC if you’re flying. 7/

We also received a very early FAA preliminary report stating that 1 ATC employee was doing the job of what should have been 2. It came out quickly because we don’t have an FAA head in the new administration and it’s not really been a secret that ATC staffing has been down for years. 6/
