My wife, who is not yet a licensed teacher, wants to take a one-year online education degree that leads to certification, focused on inclusive education. Does such a program exist? If so, where?

A research study into "Practice-based pedagogies" shows noticeable improvement in their subjects' ability to elicit and use student thinking after a short intervention, during a small RCT: edworkingpapers.com/sites/defaul...

Asking the UK mathematicians on BlueSky. What is your definition of a face? In North America, we use this definition in English: "a face is a flat surface (a planar region) that forms part of the boundary of a solid object." So for a cylinder, the two ends of the cylinder are faces. #ukmath #maths

New blog post: 239th Carnival of Mathematics! Recapping math/maths/mathEd content from April. #MTBoS #iTeachMath #MathSky #MathChat #RecreationalMath #MathsToday karendcampe.wordpress.com/2025/05/05/c...

I blogged again! I had a conversation with a teenager I know who was complaining about needing to learn things they'd never need to know again after the test, and I felt compelled to write about this issue. "Teaching for Memory Rather than The Test" davidwees.com/content/teac... #edusky

I've got a new mantra. I'm unfollowing and muting people who mostly post stuff to tear other people down rather than posting alternatives, offering critical feedback, or best, proposing their own solutions to the problems.

What is going on here? I blogged again! That's twice in one week. I'm on a roll! This time I'm talking about metacognition in the math class: davidwees.com/content/meta... #iteachmath #math #education #edusky

New blog post! (First one in a while!): Are AI Generated Lesson Plans Valuable? davidwees.com/content/are-... #edtech #edchat #iteachmath

General strike time.

My suggestion to the American people: Don't comply. Don't obey ridiculous and harmful executive actions and laws. Don't fall in line. Don't allow yourselves to be ruled by fear. Don't draw away from your neighbours and family; embrace them.

Finally gave up on Twitter completely.

I read something that stuck with me recently. When someone says they are "opposed to DEI" ask them what part they are opposed to, diversity, equity, or inclusion? Ask them to be really specific about what they oppose.

Whenever I get yet another phone call from a Telus representative, I am reminded of the scene in the Princess Bride where the torturer uses The Machine to suck Westley's life way. Telus: "I've just sucked 30 seconds of your life away with this pointless phone call. How do you feel?"

This picture looks like something @howiehua.bsky.social would create. I love that the first frame here is a meme within a meme!

Happy New Year everyone! 2025 is a fascinating number, for those of you interested in numerology. 2025 = 45² and since 45 = (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9) 2025 = (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9)² That's kind of fun to me!

My lips are numb still, from the process of replacing a filling an hour ago. I took a drink from my water bottle and my mind was like, "This is an oval opening in this water bottle spout." I had to double-check with my eyes to confirm that it is in fact a circle. Cognition is wild, y'all!

How are the graphs different? How are they similar? How are the situations different? How are they similar? Which graph matches with which situation, and how do you know? #connectingreps #mathsky #edusky

Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill, obviously.

Nursery child sets up the fruit & milk bar ready for the morning: “10 cups & 10 plates!” He looks up, spare plate in hand: “Is 11 the biggest number in the world?” he asks. “Are you wondering there might be bigger numbers somewhere?” I respond “..39?…78?…but I don’t know how big they are.”
