This is true, but my wife has a bunch of other teaching experience. She is already a great teacher, but she needs a credential. Also, she has a husband who coaches teachers and can help her with the early career hurdles she'll have to face.

We used practice-based pedagogies as part of work I was part of long ago at New Visions for Public Schools, and so I have seen them work.
These same pedagogies used to support teacher candidates also work with teachers in the field as part of professional development.

The idea doesn't seem all that hard -- instead of just talking about teaching, teacher candidates should look at and experience examples of teaching through a variety of mediums.

They appear to be including curved surfaces in their definition. Is this standard in the UK? Or the BBC not accurately representing the majority view for the UK? #maths #ukmath

There's a step missing:
57 + 24 = 50 + 7 + 20 + 4 (associativity)
50 + 7 + 20 + 4 = 50 + 20 + 7 + 4 (commutivity)
50 + 20 + 7 + 4 = 70 + 14

I've also seen some efforts to catalogue student thinking with respect to different topics like algebra and integers, but nothing with a common format or comprehensive enough to be useful.
Not surprisingly, Science subject matter experts are further ahead here.

Your president's ability to govern is based on whether you comply. Society is bound by a social contract more so than laws and rules. If enough people resist and refuse to comply when those laws and rules become unreasonable, then they become unenforceable.

Oh, I don't think it changes many people's minds. But sometimes when people hear themselves say some stuff out loud and find out they can't, I wonder if thinking it through helps them revise their thinking.
But more importantly, it can help bystanders who have not yet jumped on avoid doing so.

My eldest started university last year! He's at McGill studying mathematics and computer science. My youngest is in our local magnet STEM program. Vasilia (my spouse) just started a new job as an educational assistant and seems to be (mostly) enjoying it. Yeah, life is going well!
