This is legalised theft, underwritten by the government.

Company takes over service. Company steals the money. Company bailed out by government. New company takes over service... It's almost like you could see a pattern emerging...

"We've worked hard to get to where we are, and I don't see why we should have to pay more tax just because of that." Yeah, maybe you have. But I'll tell you who works hard: my bin man. And I don't see you petitioning for him to live out his days on a gilded pension with £200k in the bank.

Probably gained another 1,490,137 in the last hour - disgruntled WP readers tipped over the edge by reading that bullshit 😄

Yeah, I wasn't really disagreeing. Just attempting a wry comment about how people get exercised when rich pensioners lose a few hundred quid, while not seeming to care that many will lose their lifetime savings/houses to pay for care services run by hedge funds and private equity firms.

From what I've observed, the wealthier pensioners need every penny they can get, so that they can hand it all over to care homes for the further enrichment of the investment companies who own them.

I think you've delivered an assessment here that is clear, eloquent, and devastatingly accurate.

Cops keeping the reporters off the streets. Hm.

Yes, my thoughts too. Bust my arse.

You say that, but there are a number of people I think that about and it never seems to happen.

I'd like to know HOW they went bust, when their game is charging desperate suckers £10,000+ to hire a tent for a weekend. You'd have to do a pretty bad job to mess up that business plan.

I've often drunk in them in London, and I wasn't aware of these rules. I was in the Chandos a couple of months ago, and I can't believe anyone would even entertain the idea of enforcing them. Not going to say I broke them though, just in case the old fucker reads this and shuts that down too.

That thing about Stephen Doughty parping with every step is probably more hateful than first meets the eye.

Yeah, Rubio though 🙄

Very good indeed. Maybe the (poo) tide is turning.

He knows exactly what he's doing. It's so horribly self-conscious, as he tries to do it in a way where he can pretend it wasn't a Nazi salute at all. He's an awkward child pushing at boundaries, but with a wealth and power that no child - or adult, for that matter - should have.

It was the phenomenal awkwardness, the self-consciousness, the internal battle to force it out, get it to look the way he wanted against every inclination of his natural movements; that was what made it a Nazi salute. Or at least a knowing provocation, which is no better.

It would be hard to criticise Israel in a way that didn't attract accusations of antisemitic tropes. The Wikipedia entry on the subject is over 20 pages long, and doesn't even mention rats. You'd have to come up with something pretty original: Nazi propaganda was very extensive.

Like Adam Curtis said, "What if people are stupid?" What do we do then? When they vote against their own best interests? What use democracy if that's the case?

Also, this keeps bugging me: I get that you can't make change when you're not in power, but what's the point in having power if it means making changes antithetical to your ideals? The means don't justify the end - they're replacing the end. So why bother at all?

I read this with an open mind, but was left feeling that Jonny Greenwood, playing Tel Aviv, with a touring buddy who entertains genocidal troops and a wife who wants Palestinians "wiped from the face of the earth", is in no position to be telling people what is and isn't progressive.

True. But if you had accused people of misunderstanding the process of sunrise, it would be beneficial for everyone if you also explained at least why they were wrong.

Nice to hear that she doesn't like people being divisive though. Oh, hang on... 🤔
comment in response to post
A lot of words, but you still haven't explained anything. Why?

This is one of the most useful bits of advice I've ever seen. Thank you.

Is there no authority that can enforce the constitution? I guess not. I guess that's why you have the right to bear arms, so you can do it yourselves. But then all the twats with the arms are the twats supporting this unconstitutional bullshit. It's not my place to point out yer problems, but...
