I'm not sure I'm sold on David's brand of cynicism but I'm glad to hear the back and forth.

So many of our colleagues insist on being unlikeable and then complain that no one likes them. I worry sometimes the field is losing connection to its roots.

Will a single definition of sex/gender will be useful for both determining who should play what sport and who would benefit from what medical interventions? Unlikely. So what is this single definition actually improbably useful for? Stoking bigotry to secure cheap culture war victories.

A lot of wisdom here as always. But I'd go a step further: the purpose of a system is what it does. So we can use science to infer the true aims of such an order by observing what it is actually useful for doing. On those grounds, this is a transparent attempt to pervert science into a tool of hate.

Yeah, I'm skeptical of the information content in these interviews (informed by some recent data we've collected) but unfortunately have to make some tough decisions before in-persons. I have plans for more constructive in-person conversations but I've never felt happy with my Zoom interviews
