Jason Carroll of @cnn.com was detained by LAPD while live on air and told to leave, all of which violates CA Penal Code 409.7. Their security WAS arrested, even though they are also protected by law as "duly authorized representatives" of the media. I've been in touch with LAPD and Mayor's office.

What to expect next: – Escalation framed as “restoring order” – Mass arrests under vague pretexts – Targeting of protest organisers and journalists – Expansion of emergency powers – Demonisation of dissent as “terrorism”

– Loyalist media amplifying fear – Attempts to bait more unrest to justify harsher crackdowns This isn’t law enforcement. It’s a power play.

CA is the most populous state & 1/33 in the US live in LA —so every US base includes folks from here. Also fwiw 29 Palms doesn’t train recruits/have grunts…it’s a specialized training base for experienced Marines…which is arguably reassuring? but it’s shameful this nonsense will stain their service

Is it? That’s not the pattern I match… They didn’t even arrange for beds for the (so far only) 300 National Guards in LA guarding a 2 federal buildings…taking over ANY city is very hard…& LA is the size of DE. What other forceful occupation has had anything in common with this hollow performance?

Both LAPD & Mayor Bass are driving home that protestors are NOT criminals… And the National Guard are guarding federal buildings—nothing else. Bass says LA is a test case for the Trump admin to illegally take over a city’s operations—& intentionally provoked chaos/violence to justify it.

Mayor Bass just confirmed there’s been no vandalism or violence today, thus far. She’s also confirmed that they know of 5 ICE raids—& that detainees have been denied access to counsel, which is unprecedented here. Additionally, she warned that families are being detained at annual ICE appointments

It's idiotic to think people are going to follow rules when people in power ignore them. It's an invitation to anarchy.

Yes, it’s always been this way to some degree, but wow, now that every media network (except Disney) is owned & run by conservatives, it is wild/shocking how singularly focussed on protecting physical property local news now is!
