I once captivated a group of teens in a store during a power outage by showing them how to make change without a computerized cash register. It’s $3.38. Customer gave you a 20. 2 pennies, a dime, 2 quarters, etc. They were mesmerized.

All these pleas, incl the ones from our neighbours here I.e. ‘please come, we love you, we’ll take your $ at par’ are missing a key point: it does not feel safe at all to cross the border. And I’m not going to.

Btw I loved reading -revisiting in many cases- the stories in No Sleep Til Fairbanks. You’re such a good writer! And for a change, it is nice to read stories about the North by someone who knows the context. Hope it is selling well.

This is what you meant by ‘health issues’ when I saw you at Fireweed Market before Xmas. Very happy for you.

Very glad it is all benign! Do you feel like you’ve been holding your breath for 8 months?

I know it’s unlikely but it would be SO awesome if he lost that by-election. So very awesome.

Signal Hill Historic Site. Very cool interpretive centre as I recall - tho it was nearly 30 yrs ago I visited. And if they can get to Gros Morne Park that is also pretty nifty

Me too. Played your video as choppers flew over my house. Stereo!

I did. Let’s not forget how hard Bruce Fanjoy worked for like the last 2 years or something. Been following him on SM as he door knocked thru rain, snow, sleet and heat

You didn’t put a chocolate fountain clause in your contract???

91 candidates on a metre long ballot. It will take a while

ooh, could take a while. That’s the riding with 91 candidates and a metre long ballot. Handy to be on pacific time for this one

And let’s stop using the term ‘super majority’. Singh even used it. It’s either a majority or not. Pedantically yours, Election Nerd

None yet I see. I actually made a donation to Bruce Fanjoy. Fingers crossed!

My son’s American ex-girlfriend was absolutely in shock about how easy it was to vote here.
comment in response to post
I know. But I registered my self on the elections.ca website then showed them a ton of ID. I like it that we make it easy, but still secure to vote, incl having someone vouch for you.

Same thing happened at my house. Where we’ve lived for 15 yrs. Spouse got the card. I did not. Was not even registered! I voted with the form I printed from elections Canada website, my passport and the 8 pieces of other ID I brought. Just in case. Nothing was going to stop me today!!

This is awesome! Was looking at an ‘elbows up’ one but might change my mind and get this one.

This is the second critical column on her I’ve seen from Braid. Has the tide turned? It should when you’re taking popsicles away from kids with cancer!

In order order to provide balanced coverage of this important issue, i would like to point out that while it is true that flies do not make honey, they are pollinators, an important function. I learned this from @sydcannings1.bsky.social so i am sure it is true!

Well, not to worry. Trump said it’s no big deal

Couldn’t believe what I was reading this morning. Aren’t these the people who were excoriating Hillary for her email???

Glad to hear it. I have a lovely little watercolour of Chadburn. If you have-or will have- one of Schwatka I’d be interested.

It has been fun to watch your development over 6 years Doug. But gotta ask- what do you do with them all? I bead / sew 500-800 pieces a year. That’s why I had to start selling them!

Hahaha. Good one, Murray!

You are correct- they not little at all. They are important marks of culture. There are so many of them.

Along with ‘zee’ and ‘nitch’ instead of ‘neesh’ for niche. The latter is like fingernails on a blackboard to me

This is why the arts and humanities are not ‘useless’ . Nor about basket weaving- which, were it an actual subject, would be a technical discipline (Maybe fine arts too)

I figure we can use them for defence when the invasion comes.

Oof is right. This was a headline and pic in the Guardian this morning. Canada goose fights off bald eagle in rare, symbolism-laden battle on ice

Download the BBC Sounds app. Everything is there- podcasts, music, radio programs, etc. Like CBC Listen. Then go to ‘Drama’ and start exploring. Dramatized books, lots of detective stories, historical dramas, contemporary radio plays, soaps, etc etc.

BBC radio dramas, Fuzzy, are the way to go. Trust me on this. They bring stuff out of their archives quite often too. Not sure why CBC doesn’t do this. They used to have some good radio dramas.
