The absolute nonsense talked by the liberal media about this speech tho. Good god they just don't do nuance any more do they?

It really isn't relevant here - the govt. has to decide on taxation and funding along with policies designed to serve us all.
Now if this were a discussion about an asset tax or the design of our progressive taxation system...

Putting the UFO to one side for a moment, that scene looks very European.

Technologies to spread usage such as half hourly pricing, plus interconnects and a large fleet of electric cars acting as battery storage (in tandem with domestic batteries) has a very good chance of beating SZC to the punch

In 15 years time Sizewell C will deliver 3.2GW. Growth in UK renewable energy per year is currently running at 500MW - or 7.5GW over the same time frame. Imagine what more could be done with that £40bn.

And £40bn overall for Sizewell C.

So £690m not ok for a river crossing, but no mention of £14bn committed by govt. for the ridiculous white elephant Sizewell C @georgemonbiot.bsky.social ?

And this is what rings so hollow about the anti net zero gang.
We're heading towards net zero not because we're being forced to, but by choice. Because it's simpler and eventually it'll be cheaper.

For decades the world has tried to manage Iran's clear intention of creating nuclear weapons, whilst simultaneously Iranian-supported-groups have clamoured for Israel to be wiped off the face of the earth.

I don't remember Badenoch being alarmist about the Liz Truss budget, which genuinely did contain significant unfunded spending commitments #r4today

The CfD rates for Hinkley are eye watering - it's the only way the project could attract private money.
All round terrible value for money for UK energy users.

It has to have huge state investment or guarantees, because no private company would take on the risk. For good reason.

A colossal missed opportunity. What a woeful lack of vision.
The money to be wasted on the already out-of-date Sizewell C could be so much better spent on modern clean energy solutions.
