The environment was terrible for Democrats. Inflation and Afghanistan would have sunk whomever was the nominee.
By contrast, had Biden torn up the Doha deal, stayed in Afghanistan, and reversed Trump’s tariffs (this actually lowering inflation), he’d have been re-elected from a nursing home.
