Another reminder that if you like dinosaur media but are feeling pretty underwhelmed by, well, the one BIG movie series, to try out Dinosaur Sanctuary. It's a lovely manga about our cultural embrace of prehistoric creatures and why we should foster a curiosity about the natural world.

A shout out to Home Depot for the recent donation of giant cardboard tubes! As you can see, they were a big hit with our wolverine, jaguar and black bear!

The many stages of red panda Tenzing yawning.

With the warm weather, carnivore staff presented 14-year-old female fossa Marie with a pile of snow, a form of enrichment, and buried under the snow were some mice treats. It didn’t take long for Marie to find her snacks!

1) USPS did not lose $3.3b. It provided a service that cost $3.3b. *The Pentagon* loses you money, however, every time it accidentally yeets a fighter jet off the deck of a carrier

Sometimes the spoilers that ruin media aren't plot spoilers, they're other people's opinions. "Sinners" was ruined for me by painful overhype. Latest batch of "Andor" was tainted by a friend complaining about it, making me clench for a bad storytelling moment that never came.

Just saw "Sinners" in theater. It was... all right? A lot of it just didn't really hit with me. I dread the next few weeks, as I'm surrounded by people who loved it.

Finished painting a bunch of models for Battletech, MCP, and Infinity. Mechs are the 2nd Lyran Regulars, or the 2. Lyranishe Landswehr. Infinity models are a group of Bakunin melee fighters, and Avicenna the doctor.

“Just calm down and let people enjoy chatgpt.” Sorry, no. I find it creepy that folks are treating a machine that mimics human speech as their friend / therapist. It is feeding you lies. It is destroying your thinking abilities. Shut it off. Talk to other humans. Go outside.

in case you're wondering, "what's the harm in claiming an extinct species has been brought back from the dead" when it most certainly has not, our interior secretary is already using it to justify taking animals off the endangered species list

Seven years today since we first introduced you to this absolute unit.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

This is a really heartening thread that echoes my experience travelling in the US over the past 3 weeks on book tour: the contrast between the horrors in the news & the joy of meeting readers & booksellers is a kind of tense engine, the former inextricable from the latter, producing vivid solidarity

I think of this whenever some conservative finds some supposedly wacky research topic that government grants pay for

I just saw "Companion" today. The movie it's probably meant to be in conversation with is "Ex Machina", a movie I haven't seen. The movie it made me think of and makes for a fascinating comparison point is "Barbie". Two very different movies about an objectified woman and her mediocre boyfriend.

I just finished reading "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow". On the one hand, reading a story that good helps justify the whole pursuit of seeking out new stories and new art. On the other hand, it makes so many other works look bad in comparison. It's a tough act to follow.

I made something, because sometimes the only way you can express your frustration is via meme.

Saying "superhero comics have a problem with places for new readers to get on board" is not a new or original statement. I feel like the problem is especially bad with Marvel comics, though. They seem more dedicated to ongoing storylines with DC, which makes it hard to figure out where to start.

Tickets are on sale for Hawkins, the '80s horror LARP I've been writing for! Happening in October in the Wisconsin Dells. grimmoire.productions/hawkins/

Conundrum: I've been reading "The Monster Baru Cormorant". I'm 2/3 of the way through, and struggling to keep going. So I looked up spoilers. This book and its sequel seem set to drunkenly weave between really cool ideas, and some total dogshit. So now I'm not sure if I want to keep reading.

More Pokepla! I... might have a problem. Doing the blacklining is just so satisfying...

More Pokepla! Painted some of the recesses to make them stand out more, like the seeds on Alcremie's strawberries. May go back over some of my older models and do the same.

Step into Hawkins, WI – a small town hiding big secrets. Inspired by Stranger Things and Stephen King’s IT, this weekend-long larp drops you straight into the action of 1980s nostalgia and supernatural suspense where you play a main character at the heart of the action. grimmoire.productions/hawkins
