silly is putting private vehicle use over public transportation. not only would people save thousands every year from the car debt trap that is vehicle ownership, it would heavily decrease emissions and eliminate the 40,000 yearly motor vehicle deaths that drivers cause.

in the US that rail is 30+ years behind on tech and extremely slow. that's why people don't use it. when you invest in it like China and Europe, people use it because its faster and more convenient. I don't think driver preferences should dictate national transportation policy.

so what? its currently extremely expensive to subsidize car ownership with free parking, oil subsidies, federal dollars (my taxes) to road and highway building/expansions/maintenance and we still do that. highways and roads don't pay for themselves. we can just direct that money to rail.
