The people of Los Angeles will rally on Monday, 6/9 to demand the release of everyone unjustly detained by ICE, like SEIU leader David Huerta, and an end to militaristic escalation on our communities. Join us and @aclusocal.bsky.social at 11 AM in LA to call for an end to these human rights abuses.

I binge listened to The Protocol over the weekend and thought it was fascinating. I’m wondering what others think, given how “both sides” it is (sort of) regarding gender affirming care. I appreciated the historical perspective, myself. Thoughts? podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

Consistent with so much of what I’ve heard and observed. Private funders don’t want to pay to keep people employed & freezers running – they take for granted that they can just piggyback off of those things being federally subsidized, & just cover relatively minor expenses like “reagents”

Elon Musk perfectly laying out the case against privatization in a single tweet

ICE crossed a line in LA

"the booming power demand from data centres is all but wiping out any prospect that the US will wean itself off natural gas anytime soon" "If all the proposed gas plants get built in the South over the next 15 years, he says, “we’ll just have to accept that we won’t meet emissions reduction goals"

This needs as much coverage as protests or ICE raids. Los Angelenos FTW. ❤️🙌

"Some have even suggested that the fascist government is trying to get a reaction out of us so that it can declare martial law. The absurdity of such a position lies in the fact that an authoritarian regime doesn’t need the law, an excuse, or provocation to do what it wants to."

Ahead of No Kings Day, a couple trainings we have coming up that might be useful: Safety and Deescalation: www.mobilize.us/nokings/even... Know Your Rights (w/ACLU): act.aclu.org/a/2025-kyr-t...

“Tasted a little tear gas— tasted like fascism”

The weird, often whitewashed way the civil rights movement is taught (or not taught) seemed to convince a lot of people that nonviolence was met with nonviolence, instead of you know, dogs, hoses, beatings, death, etc

"everything here was pretty chill today, not sure what all the fuss was about, we don't particularly see any need for escalation" --literally the LAPD

Public transit was the engine that powered the successful protests in Seoul to depose a would-be dictator

More yellow & orange lichen on a Colorado River boulder today 🌿

The images today are chilling. Tanks being moved into DC while ICE drives through protesters and barricades.

Here are some texts I got from an immigration lawyer friend of mine. Shared with permission. Some of the bleakest shit I’ve ever heard.

You know it’s Friday when your agency leaks just enough information to ruin your weekend. “Secretary Brooke Rollins has said her team is ready to deploy [firings] as soon as the injunction lifts…that are expected to include thousands of layoffs and relocations.” www.govexec.com/workforce/20...

this & similar earlier reporting by wired is important. musk loyalists are all throughout the trump administration now. vought will just carry on with most of what musk started- slashing US federal capacity.

Musk installed Starlink satellite internet at the White House without notifying cybersecurity officials, the WaPo reports. SpaceX engineers accessed the Eisenhower Building roof without Secret Service clearance. Starlink bypasses official monitoring systems, creating major security risks.

For all the talk of rounding up MS-13 members and such, cops and ICE thugs are the only gangs I see roaming the streets and terrorizing citizens.

If a Democratic president cut off one of the red states dependent on federal funding, it would be a political scandal. But cutting off California -- the single biggest "donor state" in the nation, one that sends in to the fed'l gov't ~$80 billion more than it gets back -- is straight-up theft.

It’s funny (not funny at all) that the academic job I applied for yesterday was at a UC. And the only reason I’m applying for it is because the administration wants to terminate all Forest Service Research offices. They truly are going to kill science.

For some perspective, the federal government funds *over half* of all scientific research and development conducted by the @uofcalifornia.bsky.social -- and UC is collectively responsible, in turn, for over 8% of all academic research conducted in the United States.

I can’t believe I’m f:cking sick again. The stress is real this year.

THEY ARE NOT DONE YET!!!!!! Barely started, in fact. Do they understand that????

Reminds me of this gem from when I first moved to Reno.

He fired thousands of Veterans. Wants to gut our care. Now he’s parading Troops through DC to celebrate HIMSELF. Trump doesn’t honor service—he exploits it.

“Sources said the administration is specifically considering a full termination of federal grant funding for the University of California and California State University systems…The UC system is the state’s third largest employer, and both systems are major engines of research…”

In order to eliminate any inconvenience to cars, we’ve made it illegal for children to be children

I sure do love KING KONG VS GODZILLA (1962), I mention for no particular reason

“federal employees texted one another Thursday night about whether they’d have to waste their breath on with these absolute fucking losers anymore”
