Just taking a general survey of the last 5 months and the public’s reaction to it, I think that construction is pretty close to complete.

This and “‘a dog can’t play basketball!’ while Air Bud dunks on them over and over”

I liked Kinlaw a lot coming out of SC but his production hasn’t matched his potential at all (obviously injuries played a part in SF). I’m willing to see if maybe he was just checked out like the rest of the Jets were last year (I could say the same for Allen in ‘23 though, don’t blame him).
comment in response to post
I didn’t watch many Jets games last year but I did watch almost every Commies game the last two seasons; I think 98% of the people I see commenting on Allen have not seen how diminished he was in 23-24 (even pre pectoral injury). We got gashed on the ground + zero push up front with him in there.
comment in response to post
I was high on him coming out of SC but he’s had trouble staying healthy and his on-field production never matched his potential. This is certainly a gamble lol

That’s such a good deal for them, especially under the new cap

The ESPN bottom line during a commercial/other programming was like the og Twitter feed for free agency lol

This is what I named my birthday event on Facebook like ten years ago lol

Sam becoming a conservative reaction meme, but in the context that they’re on his side, would be deeply hilarious

Honestly even though I didn’t think they would be able to compete with the Celtics, I thought PG would be a helpful addition and they’d be able to win like 55 games with decent health luck. It’s hard to believe how washed both Embiid and him look, and then McCain got injured too…Season from hell lol

Which gets more attention/highlights the issue more; a sitting Senator/rep being arrested for trying to stop this takeover, or a one vote difference in yet another thing passing along party lines? I think it’s a fair point. Muting is a bit extreme, but ok lol
comment in response to post
A Senator being arrested for trying to stop this, then missing a vote and having Gabbard confirmed 52-47 would do a lot more than doing nothing and having her confirmed 52-48.

Clairo FTW. Definitely check out Shelly (joint project between Clairo and Claud) if you haven’t already!

Is it a dell by chance?

People look at “17th toughest” and “5th toughest” and see a gap of 12 spots and assume it’s more meaningful than it is when it’s only a few percentage pts difference. Kind of like being tied for 3rd or tied for 23rd on the golf leaderboard but you’re only 2 strokes back lol.

Introducing new legislation to outlaw people breaking into my house and stealing my property, hope republicans will cross the aisle on this one!

This is already against the law? Why do we need a new bill to enforce existing law….

Just on a purely emotional level, I’m accustomed to rooting against Luka (except in the finals against the Celts) and it feels strange to all of a sudden replace my favorite player on the team with a guy I’ve rooted against his entire career lol. But that’s why I’m not a gm.

My friend said “I felt like I was being pretty objective, but you were pretty charged up” lol. Yea, I can’t be objective; I freaking love Anthony Davis! In the big picture this is probably a great move for us, but I think a lot of folks don’t understand AD’s value bc defense is underrated.
comment in response to post
Your post helps me feel better about my own reaction lol. My friends seemed very confused that I was sad/upset, but I’ve gotten pretty attached to AD (and had just been raving to them about Max’s growth this season) and love the way he plays the game/his brand of ball is more my style than Luka’s.

It was what, 8 months ago they gave the full court press treatment to Biden being too old? So we know they could do it if they wanted to; they just don’t give a shit or actively want to obscure what’s happening.
comment in response to post
Also there’s nothing funnier than seeing somebody who’s ripped and looks athletic and then you see them try to throw/catch a ball or even run and you can immediately tell they are terrible at sports. Like that FX Aaron Hernandez show where the guy has zero clue how to run normally lol.

This is why I internally screamed any time I heard people say things like “well at least they’ll be too stupid to do anything that bad” about Trump or his appointees/cabinet picks etc. Like, it’s actually incredibly easy to do lots of damage by being an idiot!

Because of either this lack of self awareness, or unwillingness to be open/honest about something that’s frowned upon, the degree to which it informs people’s behaviors and politics is not easy to quantify with polls or surveys.
comment in response to post
I think the difficult part about this is that for many of these people, they themselves are not even consciously aware that that’s the underlying reason. They might feel/act certain ways but be unaware of the root cause, in the same way many people don’t understand childhood trauma.

“Loud contingent of Celtics fans here” “Fun atmosphere” Pick one…lol

But it’s also a question of approach. RW influencers basically take a Max Martin pop music approach; “what can I make that will catch on with the most people?” while content creators on the left don’t spend much time considering how they come across to normies.

They’re like the Jets Lite in that networks assumed I’d want to tune in and I’m like nah I’m good lol

He had a few missed throws but he didn’t have any missed reads/decisions. The degree to which he limits turnover worthy plays by keeping both of those things low while also staying ahead of the chains is just insane.

It’s like if that “he holds the record for longest yards received” scene from the Lifetime movie were a commercial.

Dems: “Voters will reward us for trying to compromise and embracing bipartisanship!” GOP: “We won’t let them accomplish a single thing, and will go on tv every day and call them partisan radical leftists who don’t care about the American people. Voters will believe us.” Every time.

By naming a song “Hydroplaning Off the Edge of The World,” he has confirmed for us that the world is indeed flat. This is pretty exciting stuff.

That’s fair and I agree with it, to the extent that if Jimmy had been promised an extension like Harden was by Morey (and directed his comments only at Pat) then I’d have less of an issue. Maybe Pat did that and I’m not privy to it. Or if he’d played well enough last year to warrant that much $.
comment in response to post
If his main gripe is with Pat bc of last year’s comments and I’m ignorant on that, I’ll take the L. I’m going off of what’s been reported (re: the contract) and what he said publicly about not having joy and only being happy off the court/him loafing through games.
comment in response to post
For the record, I like Jimmy as a person/player and it’s not like this makes me sour on any of that, I just don’t think it’s a great look, much in the same way Pat calling him out like that wasn’t a great look.
comment in response to post
So because one team gave PG an extension that everyone agrees is a bad deal, the Heat have to do the same thing? What? Pat had mishandled this situation in general, but giving Jaylen Brown/Tatum money to a guy putting up 18 ppg is just not gonna work if they want to contend.
comment in response to post
Just because I don’t think Jimmy is handling this well/being a good teammate atm doesn’t mean I think the Heat org are victims or Pat has been blameless. My point is a)he’s not throwing a tantrum bc of Pat, because b)he’s done this before, and c)it’s about the contract, which would be an overpay.
comment in response to post
Moreover, we can probably agree the Heat haven’t done a good job building around him, but he seems to be more upset about the contract he wants than anything else. It’s hard to argue he’s worth said contract given his age/production or that the Heat could contend with him on that contract.

Frankly if my coworker was getting paid 5-10x my salary, was mad at management + started acting out in a way that affected me/made my job harder, I probably wouldn’t be too cool w/that. It’s not taking the owner/GM’s side to say there’s a right and wrong way to handle it. Jimmy’s often been wrong.
comment in response to post
Don’t give a shit about Mickey or Pat, but half assing it and putting up 9 pts is letting his teammates down. I get that players don’t have freedom of movement like most jobs, but that’s part of the trade off for the salary level. If he wants a trade fine, but don’t punish your teammates for it…

Kinda ironic that Kobe of all people saw that this was a flawed/incomplete + likely untenable way for the media to cover the sport lol. It makes sense though; people watch nfl bc they view the sport as the product, in the nba the stars are. So without a MJ/Kobe/prime Lebron, it’s viewed as “worse.”
comment in response to post
Yea, I think there’s almost a built-in legacy of X’s and O’s film breakdown for football bc of the nature of the game, long build up + breaks between plays etc. Fans are conditioned to expect it, whereas with the NBA it’s “which star stepped up and which one blew it?” and little else.
comment in response to post
I do truly love Chuck and inside the nba, immensely. But I enjoy it for what it is + only watch once a week or so, and still need a healthy diet of stuff like LFR, Zach Lowe, et al on a day to day basis. I think the league suffers bc too many fans ONLY consume cheap/shallow media coverage every day.
comment in response to post
Yea that’s what I was alluding to with my first comment; he was better at basketball than I’ll ever hope to be at anything, and sadly I think that’s made him closed-minded about modern ball by sheer virtue of it being too different. He seems to appreciate hockey, in part because it’s “new” for him.
comment in response to post
It’s kinda like somebody who works for music press spending a ton of time talking about why they don’t like Taylor Swift or why she’s overrated, and bemoaning that music sucks nowadays. It’s like hey, you know you could instead just cover/promote the artists you like, right? You’re the media!
