They have unthinking faith in their guy to fix everything. There’s nothing more to it than that. There is no answer to how they thought it would work, because they didn’t. They just have faith in their weird stupid wannabe messiah.

Anyone who has ever actually tried to make a language model do anything like this knows it isn’t that simple

I just moved, and they are being kept indoors for some time so that they learn this is home and don't wander off when we let them out. They do not like this plan.

this sounds like a more valuable skill building lesson than most of what I learned in school tbh

they aren’t in touch with what’s going on, it’s not part of their sphere

I thought that living in the middle of a city would help with this (I moved here with very little of anything) but everything is closed at the time I want it so I need to rethink my entire daily routine

guh I’d love to see what you’d come up with if you hacked this game I just made this weekend at wilderness game jam. It’s a dungeon crawl using bone casting on illustrations of monster features.

I def agree with some of this and have seen my fair share of it. I think that’s part of human nature though more than a product of modern communication, and will always be a factor to deal with in any truly social space. Thanks for sharing thoughts.

will probably set up a comradery page for helping organize future camping game jams ā¤ļø

I have largely managed to avoid this by being judicious about who I follow. But there’s a lot of misery everywhere right now so I understand. Anyway, maybe check out this thing I made last weekend in a camping game jam, it isn’t miserable das-zol.itch.io/bone-crawl-srd

Like, I don’t know you, but I would bet that as long as you have at least some friends, there’s a short chain of people between us who would vouch for each other’s authenticity. Could be wrong. Anyway it’s not like I’m actually building the thing.

there’s not anyone keeping any lists straight, this is an idea for a distributed system where everyone is responsible for how they individually participate.
comment in response to post
ok? I’ll make a special bad pile just for you if that’ll make you feel better
comment in response to post
there is no one bad pile, every participant has their own perspective.

I don’t think it would solve every problem but I think with good interfaces on top it could help with many problems of social networks.
comment in response to post
This would be an attempt to model the real-world network of trust between people, with all its flaws. It is an assertion that everyone should have the power of social self-determination. You must decide who to trust in life. They also decide who to trust. Current internet doesn’t respect this.
comment in response to post
I do see potential for that, but if the protocol is robust enough, bad actors should end up caught with lower reputations, and so their word would hold less weight.
comment in response to post
This may be a dumb idea, but I think if the internet is to remain useful we need a reputation gossip network that ties information to an actual person, where you vouch for the reputation of people who you personally know and trust.

I had a cat run out in front of me once, I swerved, but the cat ran towards where I swerved, and if I hadn’t stopped in time there’s a solid chance it would have looked like what you saw.

if only we could post with fonts, what a world that would be
comment in response to post
I started reading about fraktur and it seems strange that it’s a full calligraphic alphabet historically used for script, but the unicode blocks are only designated for math. I guess that’s what fonts are for, though.
