happy Pride, everyone remember, Terry Pratchett said trans rights

What was genuinely great? Terry was very involved with the conventions. The conventions are very queer / nd / family oriented / disabled. The trans and queer female community embraced the dwarves like whoa. Terry went : 'uh. I wasn't expecting this but I'm absolutely leaning into this.'

In a peer-reviewed paper published last year, three academics formally argued that the best, most accurate term isn’t “hallucinations” but “bullshit.” Not suitable for all audiences, perhaps, but nonetheless iconic and correct, if you ask me.

Sorry, it was after that, when they’re moving the barricades

so the slightly better news is that rattus rattus as opposed to the more usual rattus norvegicus have a longer life span and people do appear to be getting them as pets now??? but yeah. fancy rats should be immortal actually

and this I'm afraid is why, until whatever happened is actually laid out clearly, nobody who was in a senior position at Unbound during the 'let's spend the royalties' period gets the benefit of the doubt.

People had repeated conversations that went, effectively, "Are we going to pay royalties?" "No, we are going to spend money on something else." I don't know who was in a position to have that conversation and make that call. But it didn't just happen in a corporate verb-with-no-subject sort of way.

This isn't a thing that happened to Unbound. This is a thing that *people* in Unbound chose to do, again and again, at every single royalty run.

When you pub a 9500w story all about us but don’t include a single trans voice (which the nyt did) you’re not covering the ppl affected by the issues. You’re treating the ppl as incidental objects in a debate they’re excluded from

Lastly, Unbound authors, if you’re not in the author groupchat on WhatsApp and you want me to pass along any friendly agent info from the ones who contact me, just DM with the name and genre/topic of your book (if I don’t know it already by this point, haha)

One of the most frustrating thing about Stephenson's work is that - while she's absolutely spot-on about the sexism of British establishment policymaking, and always has been - systematised misogyny simply doesn't "count" for her if happens to be directed at trans women.
