Indeed. He was worthless... Essentially abdicated key tasks of the federal government to the states because he was too stupid and indecisive to take any action himself. #WorstPMEver

Last four eps of S7 are kick-arse, though.

Addendum: the seventh season isn't all great. They introduce The Bad Batch (who gets their own show afterwards), and they're a bit OP and have some thick plot armour.

Certainly finished better than it started. Don't like losing to Carlton... they're not good.

I always saw the AFL demand that the stadium be built as a bluff. AFL didn't really want a Tas team, so they put an impossible roadblock in the way, never expecting the Tas gov't to call their bluff. Now, the AFL can't go back on it out of bloody-mindedness. One big fuck-up all-round.

I've never understood why they keep using Lynch... He's not great at speaking.

Unfortunately, spot-on, there RoCo. As far as EFC is concerned, this continual refrain that 'Essendon people' are needed to fix the problems and always looking backwards... the constant hunt for the *saviour*. Arrogcance, writ large. So many hurdles to overcome before results start to show too.

No embarrassment required there. You're dealing with the vagaries of the control system as well as the inherent difficulty of the game(s). You do you. Life's too short to play games that aren't enjoyable. Me: if a game requires extended grinding, I'm out.

The only thing that matters is that you're listening to music you enjoy.

Well, I guess you've learned at one thing today. 😀 In metal we call them "cleans"... everyone else just calls it "singing". Progressive, Power, Epic and Symphonic metal are often "clean" only. Some Doom as well. I've linked to it previously, but here's a good example of progressive metal.

You mean with just "singing" (generally referred to as "cleans" in the metal world)? There's plenty of metal that doesn't use screams, growls, shrieks, shouts or grunts. Granted, it tends to be confined to a couple of particular subgenres, but there's heaps.

Well done.

Unfortunately, Jar Jar Binks shows up a few times... He sucks in animated form too.

Very true.

I guess I'm more open to it, having grown up watching cartoons (even though this is CG than traditional cartoon), but for someone that likes Star Wars, I just reckon it's almost compulsory viewing. It really helps fill in the gap between Episodes 2 & 3 and much more insight into Anakin.

I love how history plays no part in Trump's thinking. "No-one wanted an electric car, but I decided to have a Tesla pop-up store on the front lawn of the Whitehouse and spruik the shit out of them" It's not cognitive decline... he's just an idiot.

It's not precisely applicable but I'm reminded of the phrase "Evil always turns on itself." The pattern of Trump discarding anyone who isn't of immediate benefit to him continues. I imagine there's a tonne of MAGA/Musk acolytes unsure where to turn now.

Good one.

It fills out a bunch of characters, introduces some more, has a genuine story arc, character development. True... there are tactical decisions and reactions made by characters that are clearly not ideal, but we can overlook them. In the last two seasons it really starts going harder. 2/2

I think it was just supposed to look cool/scary. There was a line somewhere in (I (*think*) 'Rebels' where a former clone trooper commented on how crappy Stormtrooper armour is... ie, not protective at all. That said... it was probably more about story: plenty of clones died from not much.

Just considering "judiciary"... it depends on whether we're talking about "ability to influence people" vs "power". If it's the former, then I don't really see the judiciary as having much reach at all (except pissing people off when they bail someone who goes on to commit another crime).
comment in response to post
Apologies. I misread the post earlier... I took it as "influence on you", rather than "influence in general". Certainly the list is not situation-agnostic... there are instances where people on lower rungs can influence the populace (1). So, yes, unfortunately, celebrities do have influence.
comment in response to post
Does it depend on who the "one person" is? Celebrities seem high on your list for people who are usually paid. How do you expose yourself to the collective wisdom of the people? To me, popularity is never a guarantee of quality.

In the senate, I expect it is predominantly the party. I'd be surprised if the vast majority of senators were not elected due to votes for their party. This person switched from Labor to the Greens back in 2022... probably because she was too far down the ALP ticket to get a guernsey.

Exactly the reason why privatisation of the postal service needs to be resisted at all costs. If privatised, either the government will have to subsidise or services will degrade or costs will increase.
