Still in the waiting room, but they took Dot back and popped her into the oxygen tank while we wait to be seen.

They’ll all pee a lot. Boys more than girls, but girls will pee too in their preferred cozy places. You’ll be swapping the hammocks out every few days before they get massively stinky anyway in an ideal world so a double layer of fleece or a layer of fleece backed with cotton should be plenty.

Now that I’m an adult, Molly’s grief when she’s shouting at the unicorn just *destroys* me in ways young-me could have never understood.

I don’t think I’ve ever used a coupon I’ve gotten from a bundle - not once.

Aw, yellow fungus can be really bad! I’m glad you caught the signs of it so she could be treated. <3 I I’ve got some snakes undergoing mite treatment atm on paper towels - even though it’s necessary I always feel guilty denying them their favorite substrate, lol.

Agreed! 😹

As a West Virginian I strongly object to ‘Appalachian’ being used on that label. 🥴

I’m glad they’re (finally (?)) taking your concerns seriously - i hope the doctor you see listens to you and can offer some insight. Long Covid is a damn insidious thing and I’m sorry you’re experiencing it. :(

And the final form - for this week, anyway.

Just bought the newest version of the cookbook - looking forward to making some fluffernutter cookies this weekend!

Ooh, my bad! I was reading too quickly and was distracted by the dog. 😳

Louder for those in the back!

Your dog looks like an absolute sweetie and your neighbor is a raging asshat. I’m so sorry.

After this is over I won’t want to touch a skein of black floss for quite awhile..

You’re adorable!

TIL my 9/10 month old kitten weighs 11 damn pounds - as much as a fully grown cat! He’s not overweight, just a Big Kitty.

Just a sprain, apparently. Poor baby though! He’s got a few days of pain meds and is currently passed out recovering from the car ride and vet trip. Even asleep he’s still got the paw he hurt curled over. :(

I never thought of it this way before but you’re 10000% right. God, the idea of no more dishes..

Oh, everyone got some dehydrated sweet potato bites to cronch on this morning. All I hear from the cage is CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH.

Sorry I keep spamming you this morning - as an example of the above here’s my latest batch of rat girl treats, none of which was more than a couple of bucks. The puffed quinoa hearts and rice cakes are organic with rat-safe veggies and fruits in them and can be broken up into several treats each.

Portia says it’s okay to just want to hide in the cage some mornings.

That’s Portia! I adopted her from a coworker whose son went off to college and left her - she’d been a solo rat for her whole life. I got her a bigger cage and some friends and she’s super outgoing now.

See, I just came out here for the first time today and three of the four instantly appeared. Juliet is in that strawberry patterned hammock and showed up the second she heard me say good morning to the others.

Yeah, I learned from watching them that rats will fall all over themselves for yogurt lol. I don’t buy pet store treats for them besides a little bag of dried sweet potato bits - I get almost all my rat treats from sales in the baby aisle at Kroger. Sooo much cheaper.

Yeah, I have the benefit of an extra pair of hands here to help me assemble things. Some rats chew, some don’t. The curved rim of the tub is hard for them to glom on to with their teeth, especially if installed this way and not cut to fit (which leaves nommable straight edges).

Sure is! Here’s the one I used: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Large-Mixing-Tub-26101/301943160 and here’s a YouTube video from a great rat owner (who trains her rats to do all kinds of tricks!) showing how to get it in easily. You’ll want ‘the other way’ partway through. https://youtu.be/gfdPzVldy1A

The way to a rat’s heart is through their stomach, tbh. If you get some treats they’ll get brave enough real quick to come take it from your hand - mine teleport to the front of the cage anytime I walk into the room now just in case I’m there to give them attention and that took less than a week.

It’s a good start! Have you considered popping out the bottom of the lower cage and putting in a mixing tub instead? You can give them a good six to eight inches of substrate to dig in that way without sacrificing the normal cage space. You’ll have almost no room left on the shelf below though.

I’m not sure how you feel about Temu, but they have a bunch of singles and double tier rat hammocks for a few bucks each. Also highly recommend the plastic C clips and metal carabiners they sell for attaching stuff.

I scatter feed the Mazuri and they squirrel it away all over the place, then will sometimes scatter feed a handful of Kaytee Fiesta for variety in addition to other treats. There’s no one true way. :)
